They live at Little Lake, one of many small lakes and have never seen a bigger lake until Knobby takes a trip to the Never Ending Sea, which is the Gulf of Mexico. He comes back to Little Lake and tells Maddie about this wonderful sight. He is very excited and wants Maddie to see this great lake. They meet up with some scary other birds on their way. They arrive safely, but soon discover that there is a Hurricane coming....they find shelter with the help of an old Muscovy relative. Then there is Little Missy Duck who was left behind by her duck family because she didn't know how to fly. She was very sad and left alone in the middle of Little Lake. Knobby and Maddie heard her sad tale - then decided to teach her how to fly. She practiced very hard every day, flapping her wings over and over, the way Knobby and Maddie told her to do. She finally found herself up above the water and was so surprised that she fell down in a big splash. She knew then just what to do to fly up in the air, and just in time too because the mean bunch of ducks were headed her way. They came every day just to taunt and tease her because she couldn't fly. As they came closer she suddenly began flapping her wings very fast and slowly flew up into the air. Her tormenters were so surprised, they just watched in awe as she flew away heading for the invisible trail that would lead her to her family. There is Redneck, who gets his name from having his neck in a constant state of redness from other ducks pecking his neck when he's being pesty and to put him in his place. There is Baby Duck, who befriends an alligator. Who everyone thinks he is mean, but Baby discovers that he is just lonesome and wants to make friends, but whenever he shows up - all the ducks run away. Baby names him Albert and to everyone's amazement - Baby jumps on Albert's back and he takes her for a ride. There is Limpy, who only has one leg. When he was little, he never listened to Mother or Father Duck and would go off on his own - no matter how dangerous. One day he swam close to where the Mean Old Alligator was always seen......and The Mean Old Alligator bit off his foot. After that, he had to hop around, but he could still fly like the wind. Full ImagePreview ImageLessons from "Little Girl" by Bernie Schillo | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/lessons-from-"little-girl"Lessons from "Little Girl" is author Bernie Schillo's love letter to "Rascal," a baby raccoon he and his wife Sharon adopted and raised together on their RV park in Garrison, Montana. Heartfelt, deeply sincere, and teeming with as much life and beauty as the 165 acres of natural wonders upon which this true story is set, Lessons from "Little Girl" chronicles Rascal's fascinating, sometimes hilarious antics and misadventures as she and Bernie come to know, respect, and truly care for one another. The book is a colorful, emotionally moving portrait of the pair's time together, and an eye-opening window into the complexity of these oft-misunderstood masked creatures, more commonly stereotyped as nuisances and pests due to their propensity for knocking over garbage cans than recognized for their captivating charisma, extraordinary intelligence, resourcefulness, and distinct personalities. Orphaned when her mother is struck by a car, Rascal is discovered on the RV park by Bernie's daughter and quickly becomes a beloved member of the Schillo household. The female raccoon kit bonds with the family's cats and dogs, develops an unquenchable affinity for Oreos and Cheetos, and derives pure joy tossing floatable toys into Bernie's hot baths, frolicking about the tub's rim during their intimate nightly ritual—even handing Bernie his mesh scrubber as soon as he finished rinsing the shampoo from his hair! Much of Rascal's upbringing is trial and error for Bernie, who does his best to learn all he can about raising raccoons from others who've done so—primarily another author and a handful of friends (one of whom shares his raccoon's ability to open a combination lock). He marvels at Rascal's astonishing intellect, which is demonstrated over and over again throughout the book in a series of eye-opening scenes: substituting potato chips for spare change and placing them in a vending machine coin slot; bartering with knickknacks of increasing value for one of Sharon's prized plants; retrieving a shiny rock from a riverbed a quarter mile away and presenting it as a gift to Bernie, among them. The two become inseparable, and Bernie relishes every moment with his "Little Girl"—the nickname he and Sharon give her—all the while, knowing deep-down that the day will inevitably arrive when he must set her free and return her to the wild. A pastor, Bernie interlaces "Lessons" from the Bible throughout the book, correlating selected passages with specific chapters and tales. Photographs he's taken throughout their amazing journey together further bring these moments to life, capturing "Little Girl" during many of the scenes so vividly portrayed in print. Bernie writes from his heart, and in the process, reveals as much about himself as his whiskered, enigmatic friend. Readers watch Rascal grow up, sure, but also catch a glimpse into the human spirit and its inherent, seemingly inexhaustibly boundless capacity to love. Endearing, always entertaining, and at times surprisingly enlightening, Lessons from "Little Girl" melds one man's memories raising a young raccoon with the timeless themes defining the very strands of human existence—death, life, nature, beauty, love, among these—creating a story that's part diary, part memoir, part children's book, all soul. Readers will never view raccoons the same way again, that's a promise.eBook

Full ImagePreview ImageLittle Gems from Baba by Phyllis Krystal | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/little-gems-from-babaIn addition to being an author and therapist and for many, a spiritual teacher, Phyllis Krystal was also a poet. From time to time during her 43 years as a devotee of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in India, love poems to her guru would come through her as she would say. She kept track of these poems and in the last few months of her very long life (she lived to be 102 and 8 months having died on December 10th in 2016 near London her birthplace) she compiled them into this sweet illustrated book devoted to Sai Baba. Her love of flowers led her to commission a local artist to render her favorites which can be seen on the page facing each poem. In the Sufi tradition these poems can be read as prayers to guru and God and demonstrate the progress of her spiritual development under Sai's guidance. They are inspirational and clearly demonstrate her love for her guru and her determination to surrender to his will, trusting that every circumstance of her life was for her growth and development as she endeavored to accept and receive the teachings offered in each event. Her well known mantra Surrender, Trust and Accept is evidenced in these poems which can inspire us all to do likewise, thus helping us to cut the ties that bind us to maya or the illusory world of the senses and conditioned mind and helping us to let go of the will and desires of the egoic mind. Phyllis only recently decided on the final titles of the poems which reflect their content beautifully and clearly especially for spiritual seekers: Dispel the Cloud of Maya, Give Me What You Know I Need, Surrender and Trust, Let Our Inner Light Shine, My Love Alone Can Satisfy, I am Always with You and Within You, Loosen Attachments, Beloved Baba, Be My Instrument, Hold On Tight and Never Let Go, We Are All God and Not the Body, Wake Up, Beloved Baba Take My Hand, Let Go and Let God, Be Happy, Keep It Simple, Near and Dear, You Are All Walking Temples, Find Me In Your Heart, Our Conscious Search, When The Pupil Is Ready, Abandon All Your Plans Even The Best Ones, Move Forward Unencumbered. Most of these 23 poems were inspired by the teachings and aphorisms of Sai Baba and some are written in his voice and many in Phyllis' own voice. Phyllis says in her introduction to what she called her baby book: For each generation there are profound moments and hopeful words that carry us forward through crisis and in celebration. I hope this little book of poetry will continue to guide, inspire and give you the courage to meet the challenging moments on the spiritual path. As I write this I am 102 years of age, and I can say they have helped me immensely throughout my life. May they guide, inspire and help us all!Hardcover

It's Only The First 40 Years That Are The Most Challenging. by Phil Adair | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/will-i-ever-sleep-againOkay, so she's pregnant! Well done to you both, but now what the heck do you do? Books for pregnant women will have featured heavily in your partner's reading for months now, while most likely you were watching sport on television, reading the paper, or thinking about a new lawn mower. Oh dear… As far as devoting any time whatsoever to thoughts of the father, the closest you have come to nursing in your life is that icy cold beer you're cradling while channel surfing on the sofa. Babies sure look like a bit of fun, you might have thought during the ad breaks, but what's the full deal here? Feelings of delight coupled with unrestrained joy will feature strongly in these early days of pregnancy for any couple. This is a seismic and life-changing event, so of course there will be additional factors well worth addressing before you are ready to deal with the delicate sounds of a hungry baby. There is surely something about pregnancy that no matter how exciting it may initially sound can also bombard the dad to be with some very destabilising concerns surrounding this mysteriously secret world. What exactly are the duties of the father in all of this? Fear not: A vast array of extremely unhelpful solutions is here for new dads everywhere, including: •Tips on how to get a breast pump pumping when it clearly doesn't want to. •Where did my life go, and will I ever get it back? •Learn why you must never, ever be present at a baby shower. •Hangovers & babies: Avoidance techniques and excruciating examples of what not to do. •The tedium of fatherhood. How bad can it really get? •Babysitters - A necessary evil, or just plain evil? Once the euphoria that arrived like sets of giant waves exploding on the beach has receded, reality sets in. Those well-wishing family, friends and colleagues have returned to their regular duties. Where does that leave you, the first-time Dad? Rather than lie awake at night staring at the light fittings, racking your brain for answers, "Will I Ever Sleep Again?" will prepare you in advance. So, if you're about to be a father, let's get started. Via the author's own torrid experiences, "Will I Ever Sleep Again?" is a wildly irresponsible ride - an hilariously funny take on just what is involved in being an expectant father. Find out exactly what lies ahead. For any man searching for solutions on exactly what is involved in the complex world of how to be a dad this book is written expressly for every father to be out there. If there's a baby on the way, and you're finding yourself perhaps just a little overwhelmed, then this is just the tonic in providing plenty of truly silly, and completely ludicrous advice on just how to be a father. "Will I Ever Sleep Again" is like a triple shot of espresso in a decaf world. A riotous collection of essays and memoirs that explores the absurd silliness of fatherhood, creating a wickedly incisive snapshot of an all-too-unfamiliar world. Adair's collection of stories and essays is a rollicking tour - candidly following an awkward yet thoroughly entertaining mission to succeed, regardless of the unfolding consequences. It covers all scenarios imaginable that a new Dad could possibly expect to confront. Despite being thwarted at every turn, Adair faces the hazards head on, with often futile attempts at anything close to resembling fatherly duties. If you're in need of a good laugh, then it's time to take a look at the lighter side of how to parent. A great entertaining read that briskly unfolds and never loses your attention.eBook

Full ImagePreview ImageJerusalem & The Three Conflicts: The Mystery of the Everlasting Kingdom Explained by B. Lising | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/jerusalem-and-the-three-conflictsThis book is about the heavenly kingdom, and this glorious eternal kingdom has a name: Jerusalem. It is about the gospel and the grand scheme of things. Here we will connect all the dots, and we will be able to see the big picture. There is only one story to tell, and two witnesses were chosen. There is only one prophecy but three prophetic instructions, and the completion will take seven thousand years. The gospel is not just the power of God for salvation, but also a complete message that can provide answers to all suitable questions. The gospel is the one and only connection we have from eternity. This means that the only way we can know our origin and purpose is to see the whole account of the gospel. The initial fulfilment of the gospel is the First Coming of the Lord Jesus, the middle fulfilment is the Holy Spirit, and the completion is the new Jerusalem (in sequence with the Second Coming). Knowing the end part is imperative to understanding the middle part and the beginning. As affirmed in Scripture, the new Jerusalem is the end part and the final stage of our foretold journey. When preaching the gospel, churches today rarely mention the new Jerusalem, if they mention it at all. It is true that the Lord Jesus is the center of the gospel, but we also need to know that the reason the only begotten Son of God had to go through all the sufferings was for us to become part of the new Jerusalem. This is why the Lord Jesus, after His resurrection, needed to leave His disciples and return to the Father. He must do something necessary before coming back for the Church. This is in relation to the new Jerusalem. What then is the connection between the new Jerusalem and the Gospel? This is a very serious question. Not knowing the link between the two is also a very serious issue. In contrast, knowing the connection will help us discover our beginning and our purpose. If the new Jerusalem is the end, then the first Jerusalem is the starting point. The new Jerusalem is, in fact, the re-establishment of the first (heavenly) Jerusalem. Does this mean that something happened to the first one so there was a need to create a new one? We can know this if we see the entire gospel account. The Gospel is all about Jerusalem, which was conquered and enslaved by Canaan, Egypt, and Babylon. But what do these three conflicts represent? Knowing the answer to this question will help us to understand the mystery of the Everlasting Kingdom, the gospel, and the grand scheme of things. In eternity past, the first Jerusalem was brought to ruin because of the Canaan conflict. In eternity future, God's promise of restoration is New Jerusalem. But first we needed a temporary escape, which is Egypt (the inside of time). Inside of time, the Babylon conflict would be the figurative representation of the Canaan conflict. It is no easy task to put together the universal truth of God's word and what it means in a way that is approachable for even those with little more than a cursory understanding of the Bible. It can feel overwhelming and uncomfortable, not so much for what it says but for what many of us seem to believe it does not say. B. Lising flips this coin in a way that we understand how there really is nothing that is not said, and the Scripture is only confusing because we have made it feel that way. The author delves into questions most of us have had at one time or another: Who are we? Where did we come from? What is our purpose in life? According to Lising, the answers to these and similar questions lie in our origins, and our origins are explained in the Bible. The entirety of the Gospel explains where we came from and what our purpose is here on planet Earth, and Revelation is a synopsis of the Bible, housing the answers to the mysteries and questions we have while revealing the grand scheme of things.eBook, Paperback
Full ImagePreview ImageWhispering With Ghosts by Michael J. Timko | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/whispering-with-ghostsThis memoir is an homage to the parents who taught the author the importance of living a life of decency, and to decency itself. He was a baby boomer, born in the Midwest to parents who met after the war. They were so poor they couldn't afford to rent a place with indoor plumbing. But whenever they confronted a problem, his parents simply said they would figger it out. Although poor, he thought his family's life idyllic. Then, suddenly, his family moved to New York, and everything was different. Everything that had never mattered – what clothes you wear, where you live, what band you listened to, where you went on vacation – mattered a lot. His clothes were bought at the five and dime; he had never had a vacation. He struggled. He began shutting down. He became wary, guarded, apathetic about school, distrustful of authority. But he had something to fall back on: those values of decency and his willingness to figger it out. While he tried to figger it out, he cut grass, worked in factories, went to Woodstock, and became the first person to be given conscientious objector status by his draft board. He became a hippie, but never dropped out. His best friend did drop out and disappeared, forever. He spent a night in a whore house in Texas and hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Decades later, he found he had lived a life he could never have imagined. He had a wonderful wife, wonderful children, a wonderful house in a wonderful town. And it had indoor plumbing! He had worked in jobs that were consuming, challenging, and rewarding. He had tried murder cases and had spent years in the board room of what had become a Fortune 100 company. He wondered whether he just had been very lucky, whether his wonderful life was accidental. He helped his Dad write a short memoir and had so much fun he decided to write his own. In the course of writing, he realized that luck had little to do with his successes. It simply had been living the values of decency taught to him so many years ago by his parents – integrity, accountability, compassion, courage, kindness. Heron has come to give Johnny a journal which the boy's father, Bartooth, wrote many years before. In 1978 Bartooth went to China, and one night made the fateful mistake of going for a walk by himself through dark streets in Guangzhou. He was attacked, stabbed and clubbed by a gang of bandits. He found himself a few days later in a hospital bed, coming out of a coma. In front of him was a beautiful Chinese doctor, Mei, who had been born in San Francisco and could speak English. There was an immediate strong attraction between Bartooth and Mei, who was married to, but separated from, her husband in North-eastern China. They talked whenever they could, and soon fell in love. They became lovers but Bartooth had to return to Hong Kong. He promised Mei that he would arrange for her to go to the USA, where they could marry. In Hong Kong Bartooth learned that Mei was pregnant. Passionate to keep his promise and to establish a family, he devised a plan to smuggle Mei and the newborn baby out of China. Part of the plan went well, but Mei never turned up in Hong Kong. After waiting in distress for weeks, Bartooth brought baby Johnny to his sister Belle, in Santa Cruz, and in desperation returned to China to search for Mei and bring her back to the U.S. No one heard from him or Mei after that. So when Heron arrives, Johnny has been living with his Aunt Belle in Santa Cruz for 19 years. Receiving his father's journal opens up a deep curiosity in Johnny about his father and mother. Johnny feels he has no choice: his number one priority is to try to find some trace of his parents. He goes to China and, with very little to go on, tries to track down his mother and father.  span lang=EN-NZ style=font-size:11.0pt;line-height:200%;font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-latin Editorial Reviews span style=font-size:11.0pt;line-height:200%;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;mso-ansi-language:EN-US span lang=EN-AU style=font-size: 11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-latin;color:#333333 A riveting read. There are small eloquent details in every sentence, which color each scene and make the book come alive. What the book has most is authenticity -  there are fascinating details throughout about Chinese culture and history. Bright Moon Ridge is a breezy, colorful read with an absorbing mystery at its core, as Johnny tries to uncover the past. Henry Baum, Self-Publishing Review Rabia Tanveer for Readers'Favorite    5 stars    This novel was really wonderful and  very well constructed. Truly tremendous! Tracy Slowiak for Readers' Favorite     4 stars In an interesting and intriguing new read by debut author Linus Treefoot, Bright Moon Ridge is a story that will keep readers engaged from the very first words all the way through the very last.... Author Linus Treefoot has done a great job in recounting the tale of Johnny Bartooth and his father, and is able to draw his characters very vividly. The story ends leaving the reader wanting more.   Joel R. Dennstedt for Readers' Favorite    5 stars This tale consistently retains the pulse-straining urgency found in contemporary whodunits. Dammit, the anxious reader wants some answers now! When those answers do arrive, believe it or not, the story gets even better, and the details we all crave to know are filled in like the finest brush strokes on a perfect piece of art. This is, after all, a great love story.   Viga Boland for Readers' Favorite     5 stars Bright Moon Ridge is a darned good read, not just because of the beautiful love story, but because of what it reveals about life in China under communist rule back in the '80s.... All this political ugliness, along with the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Mei and Bartooth at John's birth, with nicely injected humor and sensitive love scenes, make Blue Moon Ridge well worth reading. Enjoy!   Chris Fischer for Readers' Favorite       4 stars Author Linus Treefoot has done a good job in creating characters that his readers will truly come to care about.... Readers who enjoy historical fiction or a good read of fiction in general should definitely pick up this book.eBook

Rosie, the female robin feels an urgency to sit on the nest. She tells Robert, her mate to go and search for food while she is nesting. He flies off in the direction of a nearby creek where foodstuffs will be ample. While he is gone, Rosie lays their very first egg together and cannot wait for him to return so she can show him their new egg. Robert returns with his mouth full of goodies for her and when he arrives at the nest, she stands up and shows him the results of their union. With is mouth full, he cannot say anything until he downloads his gatherings into Rosies mouth. He then says WOW that is great. Did you have any troubles ? She thanks him for asking and then instructs him to now sit while she goes looking for more goodies. He does. Soon after Rosie flies off to find more sustenance, the wind begins to blow and instantly everyone is aware of a large storm heading their way. The rain really begins to come down and the wind is blowing their tree limb back and forth. Rosie had fastened the nest to the limb with mud from the nearby creek and the rain is beginning to weaken it and the nest appears to be getting loose. Recognizing this situation, Robert becomes alarmed and flies off into a nearby bafn loft where he can keep an eye on the eggs condition. Suddenly a strong puff of wind blows again and the nest dumps the egg out into space and it begins to fall towards the earth below. In Roberts mind thought is a crucial word splat and he knows what is going to happen to their beautiful egg. God however was watching and He prepared a large Eucalyptus leaf filled with rain water, to pass directly under the falling egg and it landed safe within its water and then continued downstream until the leaf bumped a object under the water and caused it to dump the egg out onto a tuft of waiting grass. Rosie, having returned to the tree, sees the destroyed nest and began screaming to everyone about her egg and that it must be found. Two loyal robins sitting higher up in the tree stated that they would cover the community and collect a group of animal friends that will be more than willing to scour the surrounding areas and find the missing egg. It is found that same afternoon, returned to the repaired nest and then squeaky squirrel returns it to the nest. All ends well as the egg finally presents a beautiful naked baby robin. He stands to examine his surroundings and say Gee, I just knew Gods world would be a great place to be in.Paperback
Full ImagePreview ImageJust the Funny Bits by Yvette Price-Mear OLM | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/%22just-the-funny-bits%221"Just the Funny Bits" is a collection of illustrated, comedic anecdotes. Compiled excerpts from Yvette Price-Mear's previous books; "Your Mongoose Wants Re-Varnishing" & "There's ALWAYS Time to Watch the Mice Dance" & "Would Tony Blair REALLY Have Invited Me For Tea…? If He Knew That I (Inadvertently) Took Photographs of Dead Friends". I hope you're intrigued by the titles! Just to give you an idea of the kind of (true) family yarns the book contains; 1; My littlest Granddaughter (aged four) said; "Nana, when I went to play at Evelyn's we SNEAKED into her Mummy's bedroom and got something 'very private and special' out of her drawers that we aren't allowed to touch". I hardly dared ask… "It was Lindsay's machine to make sure that her baby's heart is beeping". WHAT a relief! ~ 2, Whilst I was working as a Nurse in Out-Patients at our local Hospital I was taking a history from a rather quietly spoken patient who had a glass eye. And I'm a little hard of hearing. I introduced him to the Consultant as; "Mr H – who lost an eye as a child when he was attacked by a Pelican". "Sorry to interrupt Nurse" said Mr H. "But I lost my eye due to a pellet gun - we don't get many pelicans in Mansfield"! ~ 3, My husband Tony was watching a Triathlon on television and I remarked what a good idea it was for the bike riders to have their names emblazoned on their behinds for the cameras to follow. Quick as a flash he replied; "Your bum's so big you could have your e-mail address across yours" It might indeed be true, but I don't need confirmation! ~ Sold in aid of Registered Charity number 1104002 (the Pet Bereavement Support Group), three thousand copies of the first three books were sold. An ardent fund-raiser, Yvette has decided to embark upon writing to raise much-needed funds to run the Charity as she's getting far too elderly to continue fund-raising prolifically as she has done for the past thirty years. And anyway, the joys of being a Nana are now her main priority. Please buy a copy of the E-Book, get a nice cup of tea, kick off your shoes and have a good giggle!eBook

Over time, I have found myself telling stories about my experiences at the Indy 500. I would tell a story about something that I witnessed or experienced and then, I would explain how a lesson of some sort or another, was learned by that experience. For years people have encouraged me to share these stories and their many lessons in a book. So, after attending over 35 Indy 500's and well over 200 Indy car races, I am ready to share these stories. As I do, I hope you enjoy the stories, but more importantly, I hope you can learn from them, as I have. My experiences have taught me about sales, motivation, leadership, management, and life in general. These great races, the drivers, the team owners, the track itself, and the many support players have helped me shape the successful personal and business life that I so enjoy today. I think if Carl Fisher and the original founders were alive today, they would be proud to see how so many millions are entertained by this great event. I also like to think that they may be more than a little amused to discover that a goofball like me has not only been entertained, but has been taught life and business lessons that have, in great ways, shaped who I am. Whether you are a big fan, small fan, or not a fan at all of the Indianapolis 500, it makes little difference. This book will be of value to you. The lessons shared and taught here are lessons that are timeless and highly valuable for anyone at any age. I love talking about this event to anyone who will listen. I love sharing stories. As a matter of fact, you can rest assured, that should we ever meet, I will be more than willing to hear anything you have to say about Indy. Just don't do it on race day. Don't try to talk to me from two hours prior to the start of the race until two hours after it is run. It's my day. As a matter of fact, I had only one condition when I got married - don't die, have a baby, graduate, plan a wedding, or do anything else on race day, if you want me to attend because I am going to be at the Indy 500. I am very selfish on that one day, each year. I work hard and I am a giving person. But on race day, it's family time. It's friend time. It's party time. It's time to be entertained. It's time to watch the world's best defy death and it's time for me to learn something about life, business and ultimately, myself. Ladies and Gentlemen! Start your engines! Start living life and let's start learning!Hardcover

It can help elementary students learn to ask for help if they are struggling with learning. Children can read the book to their parents who might struggle with literacy. These parents can realize that there are places that they can go to receive help and understand that they are not alone when it comes to struggling with reading and it&rsquo;s never too late to learn. Carey understood at an early age that she had reading difficulties. Even though she loved books, she only liked them because of their beautiful illustrations. Carey felt very different as a child growing up because she just didn&rsquo;t understand why everyone else could read except her. Carey&rsquo;s biggest fear in life was being found out that she could not read. In school Carey thought up strategies to get out of reading out loud. The older she became the better her strategies became. Unfortunately all of this took away from her truly learning to read. She received her grade 12 Diploma, but was unable to read very well. After high school she had a series of low paying jobs and accepted the she would have to be content with a sad future. When Carey became pregnant, she received a box of books as a gift for her unborn baby, and she realized that she couldn&rsquo;t read the books. She understood that she needed to do something for her baby and her child&rsquo;s future. So she found a literacy tutor who has dedicated her time every Sunday to teach Carey to read. This one-on-one time with her tutor has enabled Carey to experience a life filled with opportunity and has taken her life in several new directions. Every challenge and obstacle she has gone through, she has also overcome. Her journey has guided her towards her deepest passions-- books and art. Combining them, she has become a self-published author and illustrator. Thinking that at first she just needed to learn for her son&rsquo;s future, in the end it not only help his future, but Carey&rsquo;s future as well. Carey wants to share her story to help others who have never had reading or writing problems better understand what it is like for those that do. This little book has taken her across Canada sharing the importance of learning to read. It requires time and hard work, but one should never give up because the end results of literacy are amazing!!! &ldquo; My Mummy Couldn&rsquo;t Read&rdquo; may be geared towards children, but the book's impact is profound. Through her own words and illustrations, Carey Rigby-Wilcox weaves an autobiographical story of her own emotional journey towards literacy. I highly recommend this book for both kids and adults - the message is touching, the images are lovely, and the author's storytelling abilities gracefully pulled me into her world, making me crave more from this talented woman!"- Wes Funk, author of Dead Rock Stars and Cherry Blossoms, host of the TV program Lit Happens</p>eBook
Full ImagePreview ImageLove Without Wings: an Adoption Fairytale by Adam Swain Ferguson | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/love-without-wingsTwo kings embark on a magical quest to become fathers, with a shooting star as their guide. Their adventure takes them across the land and eventually leads them deep into an enchanted forest. High in the treetops they meet a fairy who had wished on the same star; hoping to find the perfect family for a very special baby growing in her belly. Love Without Wings began as a very special bedtime story; one inspired by my own family's adoption journey of two years - years spent waiting, wishing, and even grieving. We had all but given up; yet, when we received a call informing us that we had been chosen by our son's biological mother - our entire world turned right-side-up. Every tear shed, every heartache simply melted away the moment we held him in our arms; our tears of grief were replaced by tears of boundless joy. What I've learned through this experience, and now wish to share with the world is a message of hope - that even when the journey sometimes feels like we are crossing rivers, mountains, and even trudging through the densest and darkest woods - hold on to hope and look for the light; because it only takes one miraculous moment for everything to change, and then there will be meadows. As an adoptive dad, I wrote Love Without Wings with hope that it will encourage children to feel pride in the magic that they bring to their families' lives. It's especially important that kids sense how much they have always been loved and wanted; that they are a greatest wish come true. In fact, every night as I rock my son to sleep, I still recite to him what I call our special family story; because from the day he was born, my goal has been to be open about adoption; that he knows his own narrative, and how our family came to be - what better way to achieve that, than through a fairytale? Since becoming a father, I've had some difficulty finding children's books that don't focus solely on the mechanics or status of adoption. While there is certainly a need for this type of literature, I wanted to instead approach the subject through creative storytelling; in a way that young children can understand, appreciate, and identify with for years to come. Therefore, it brings me immeasurable pride to now share this tale with you dear readers - as a beautifully illustrated children's book that reflects our adoption journey. Not only does this book celebrate families like ours that are made complete through adoption; but also honors the birth parents who make these dreams possible. Finally, for those families who are still wishing - I hope that Love Without Wings offers the encouragement and reassurance that I often found myself searching for. I realize that adoption is not always a fairytale, and that no two stories are ever the same. There are many nuances, hurdles, and setbacks for waiting families and children alike. With that said, please keep your heart open, your head high, and keep wishing on stars; with faith that one day, your little prince or princess will come.Paperback

Little did the young girl know that this encounter would be life-changing and impact her in ways she could not imagine, not the least of which is an encounter with a baby moose that entangles her in an urban legend: the Ghost Moose of Maine. While living with Mary, Amelia learns amazing things and experiences both exhilarating and frightening adventures that force her to quickly mature and become a self-sufficient young woman. Amelia's maturity would be of great help when she eventually learns disturbing facts about her family that would impact her young life and result in her meeting someone very special: a girl named Amanda. The girls instantly bond and develop a unique relationship, to the point where they feel as if they have finally found peace and happiness in their own version of Paradise, where they experience challenging adventures that bring them even closer together. However, they are destined to have an earth-shattering experience which proves that life isn't always the way it seems, leaving them to wonder if their lives would ever be normal, or if they'd struggle to find real happiness. Although Mary is by and large self-sufficient, at times she needs to call on her friend and neighbor Joshua for assistance, and he is always more than willing to help. However, he lives over six miles from Mary's cabin, and she and the girls have to rely on themselves when it comes to overcoming the day-to-day challenges of living in the wilderness. Many of the adventures that Amelia, Amanda, and Mary experience in the scenic woods of northern Maine are pleasurable, while others involve dangerous encounters with black bears, wolves, moose, and occasionally unsavory people. Indeed some of those encounters are so dangerous that they barely escape with their lives; and one mysterious encounter is totally unexpected and so shocking that it makes their encounters with wild animals seem like child's play.Paperback
Full ImagePreview ImageLiving with Double DDs: Surviving Depression and Divorce by Cenell Boch | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/living-with-double-ddsSo it is my own personal journal entries that I am sharing with you. My personal experiences with obstacles (depression and divorce) that I have choosen to share with you in this book. Looking back over these obstacles and periods of despair in my life, I began to realize how blessed I really am. They say hindsight is 20/20 and of course it is. There are many stories in my life that I would love to share with you of how a way was made when seemly no way was possible. Or stories of how just when I was about to give up instead all I did was say a small three-word prayer (God help me) and miraculously whether profound or in a very subtly way I felt relief, a breath of fresh air, a sense that everything was going to be alright. There are so many times in my life where I felt lost and alone and it was the voice of a virtual stranger or someone I'd just met who would speak profound words of encouragement to me – as though they had some idea of my situation but how could they because we barely knew each other. These are examples of my God-winks or my angels watching over me and I'm so grateful for these feelings of safety and security. It reminds me of the biblical scriptures: I will never leave nor forsake you and The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters. There's a peace, serenity, and security that I found I could access even during rough waters and some of the most tumultuous times in my life. Yes, I could truly feel that peace in the midst of the storm or find still waters in the midst of the violent currents which threaten to pull me under. You see I've always believed in a greater LOVE, that there is something (I call it God, Source, our Creator) that sustains us when we are unable to sustain ourselves. When we fall, crumble, or simply can't see straight due to all the pressure of life. It's in these moments where I know my strength comes from pure LOVE, from our true Source. It was in my moments of devastation and despair that I reached out, and even cried out to this Source for help, comfort, and reassurance. I hope my short stories I share here with you help you to CONNECT with our true Source just like I have and still do. My hope is that this little book will encourage you connect and stay connected not only in those times of despair but also in happy times when you just want a little more reassurance that Source is always with you. Peace & Blessings my Friends, CenellPaperback
