Overview
In VERY LITTLE BABY, Buechler breaks down unfamiliar words for new and young readers, or for parents to read with them for all to have fun with words.
Description
When expectant parents arrive at a home-style birthing center in Belfast, Maine, Baby Max is born. He is tiny. His grandparents learn through an old-fashioned telephone—it's 1986—of their first grandson's birth and name and react with excitement and love. Soon, family friends have mixed reactions, one of them worried about the baby's lack of size. However, as one of the two grandmothers predicted, he grows. Like the change of seasons, Max changes as he grows.
About the author
Beth Buechler spent most of her adult life in rural Maine homesteading, restaurant working, running two businesses, and ultimately teaching adult education. She attained an MA in English from the University of Maine at Orono, where she also won the Steve Grady Award for fiction as an undergraduate. Now living with her second husband and their bullmastiff in Indiana, besides writing she organizes two fiction-writing groups, a monthly book club, and teaches part-time for senior learners. Her genres span from children's books and Jewish folk tales to mainstream/contemporary fiction, ghost stories, a ghost novella, and a somewhat paranormal novella she describes as Covid lit.
