Molinda is a returning adult-student graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a bachelor’s degree in African American Studies. She focused on Literature. Having enough credits for an Afro-Am degree in history, she had to choose.
Four years later, the opportunity to earn a master’s degree presented itself. She availed herself that opportunity, and in a little over three years, graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Molinda was also working full-time.
Previously, to her continuing education, Molinda wrote songs and performed them in reggae bands. She crossed genres and began to write poetry expressing that “songs are poetry to music. “
Someone she respected very much once told her they wanted to “smooth her rough edges.” She said later while conveying the story, “I cried like a baby.” And then, she realized why. As a black woman in America, she needs her rough edges and wishes to celebrate them and share them with others.
