About the author
Julie is the founder and CEO of Mer Folk.
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Julie was born the eldest of three children. Growing up, Julie was fascinated by mythical creatures of all kinds: unicorns, pegasi, seahorses, gryphons, and mermaids (She didn't realize until she was older that seahorses aren't actually mythical.). She started swimming lessons at 2 months old and has always enjoyed being in the water, often pretending to be a mermaid, dolphin, or other sea creature, both real and imaginary.
Pets have been a major fixture in Julie's house: When she was younger, she shared her house, at various times, with hamsters, a cat, dogs, fish, rabbits, a chicken, and small parrots. After she got married, she limited herself to one bird: a Pacific parrotlet named Teruah.
Today, she is happily married to her husband of 15 years, Connan Peace. She is the mother of one delightful daughter, and joyfully expecting another.
Julie has a passion for freedom in all areas of life: freedom of self-expression, freedom of choice, financial freedom, freedom to learn and grow, and freedom to be her most authentic self. Her passion for freedom, and her desire to see joy, fun, and beauty in the world, inspired her to start her company, Mer Folk, to bring the magic of mermaids and mermen to pools and beaches around the world.
