About the author
Captain Tim Howington, U.S. Navy (Retired), was born September 1954 in Louisiana. He joined the Navy in 1980, rising to the rank of Commodore. In his career, he commanded 2 ships (a Minesweeper and a destroyer), a squadron of supply ships, and was assigned as the senior Military Sealift Commander, Central Command during the 2nd Iraqi War. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, his units completed more than 500 combat support missions delivering materials to troops in the Middle East. He also commanded the Navy/Marine Corps ROTC units at Ole Miss, University of Memphis, and Christian Brothers University. Additionally, Capt. Howington was assigned as Director of two national programs. He was awarded more than 40 personal and unit decorations during his career, including 5 Legions of Merit. He is married to the former Kathy Waldrop Burnham and is the proud father of two boys, Michael Andrew and John "Jay" James.
