Dorothee Sophie Royal is a writer, poet, and mother of two living between Berlin and Mexico City. Her writing emerged as an act of survival and transformation after experiencing postpartum depression following the birth of her first child. Since then, motherhood has become both her subject and her teacher—an initiation into the thresholds of identity, grief, tenderness, and becoming.
She is the author of Rooted, a pregnancy journal honoring the inward path to motherhood. She is a 2026 writer in residence at Motherlore Magazine and her poetry and essays have appeared in Invoke Magazine, Sub Rosa Press, BUST, and For Women Who Roar. Through her work, Dorothee explores the mythic and the mundane dimensions of mothering, tending to the stories that live in the body and the quiet revolutions that unfold in domestic spaces.
