Overview

Keep Walking is a modern-day pilgrimage, a spiritual journey, a physical feat. Cathay was in her mid-60s and entering a new phase of life. In phase one she had been single for 29 years. Phase two followed with 33 years of marriage. Now widowed, she was looking for direction for her next 30 years. With trepidation, Cathay traveled alone to Spain and started walking the 483-mile Camino de Santiago. She kept walking day after day through tears, anger, laughter, sadness and great joy. Keep Walking is her story of self-discovery, of transformation, and of renewal, all set in the magical, mystical field of the stars, the Camino de Santiago.

Reviews:

"There are no canned answers here. No pious platitudes or trite cliches. . . As the author shares her experiences, emotions, and interactions along the Camino, readers will discover a level of authenticity and candor with which they can readily connect. Like how to forgive someone for dying and leaving you alone." -- Pages and Paws

"Cathay interspersed observations from her daily walks with enough detail about the people she met and the places of interest along the way, to keep the book flowing effortlessly." - Rosie Amber

"Cathay’s thoughts and account of her 37-day hike are truly inspirational. Whether you are interested in hiking the Camino de Santiago or learning how one woman looked inward to change her life, I highly recommend this book.”  -- JD Jung, Underrated Reads

Description

Keep Walking is a modern-day pilgrimage, a spiritual journey, a physical feat. Cathay was in her mid-60s and entering a new phase of life. In phase one she had been single for 29 years. Phase two followed with 33 years of marriage. Now widowed, she was looking for direction for her next 30 years. That's when she felt called to hike the Camino de Santiago, the centuries old 483-mile trail across northern Spain. As Cathay began to physically prepare for such a feat by hiking and walking and leaving her sedentary life behind, she became aware that it would also be an inner healing - a rite of passage to the next phase of her life.

With trepidation and some fear, Cathay traveled alone to Spain and started walking. She kept walking day after day through tears, anger, laughter, sadness and great joy. Every day was a challenge, and she often questioned why she was on the Camino. Why not just go to a nice hotel and think through what to do the next 30 years? Her journey paralleled that of Much Afraid from Hannah Hurd's Hinds' Feet on High Places, the allegorical book Cathay carried with her. Who knew they would have so much in common?

Keep Walking is Cathay's story of self-discovery, of transformation, and of renewal, all set in the magical, mystical field of the stars, the Camino de Santiago.

About the author

Cathay is a believer in possibilities, a dreamer, and an encourager -- especially when she puts thoughts into writing. As a teenager she discovered that she could best sort out her thoughts and express herself in writing. In her own words, she shares, "When I put pen to paper — or watch a screen fill with words while clicking on a keyboard — thoughts and ideas come together in clarity. They take formation. They tell me what I didn't even realize I was thinking, or knowing, or seeing. Writing refreshes me, inspires me."

Cathay's goal is that her words will also refresh and inspire her readers, causing them to reach beyond what they ever thought possible. Her desire is that Keep Walking will give encouragement and hope to its readers, and that they will discover the joy that is within them.

I kept reading, my heart followed This book was a wonderful read! I find it hard to finish most books I start, but this one kept my interest. Cathay took me along her journey through a place I had not been, neither physically nor in my heart, to see how she coped with loss through a self-induced trial of will and strength. I could relate in many ways to what she was learning about perseverance, understanding, compassion for herself and others—and finally, to love herself through God’s eyes. The book left me feeling uplifted and brave, as if I could also do things that seem beyond my ability and definitely beyond my comfort zone. Thank you Cathay for sharing your story and including the rich cultural history of the Camino along the way. Read more

Keep Walking Your Heart Will Catch Up We travel multiple paths on our life journey. Cathays first path was as a girl and young woman. She shared her next path with her husband of 33 years. As a widow, she was uncertain where her next path would take her. She felt called to walk the Camino de Santiago. She shares that journey with other pilgrims, Much Afraid from the book Hines Feet on High Places, and us. Each step opened her heart to the possibilities of the future. I am thankful to have shared her travel through this written, warm, book as I also find my next path. Read more
