Wishy-Washy Weather is different. It is a read-aloud book that captivates its audience by combining delightful illustrations with the playful addition of rhymes. The author went a step further and created a unique way to slip in a fun lesson. Children enjoy the images of weather while learning rhyming word pairs and matching them to the words in the verse. A supplemental page at the end of the book provides an explanation of how rhyming impacts a young child's reading readiness. It also includes suggestions for open-ended discussion that gives children an opportunity to talk about weather related to their experience, their favorite type of weather, and even asks them to think about weather they may have never see. Susan Falkenhan is an educator, an author, a mother of three and grandmother of six. She has had an extensive career in education as a teacher, a placement coordinator, an educational consultant, and a federal program specialist. From the time her children were very young, Susan concocted stories and poems that entertained and captivated them. Her love of story-telling continues with her grandchildren who delight in the imagery and silly rhymes she creates. Susan lives in Fulton, Maryland near her family and spends her summers on the island of Vinalhaven, Maine where she soothes her soul and renews her creative energy.
