This book comprises three pieces of writing on the spirituality expressed in the music, texts and art of 12th century Benedictine nun, Hildegard of Bingen. It explores the unique voice and embodied feminine visions with a broadly feminist conceptual framework.
The first paper is a loose transcription of a talk given at a conference and encourages the audience to open their imaginations in exploring the work of Hildegard, not only through academic concepts.
The second paper looks at Hildegard's visionary writings understanding them through an imaginative feminist set of ideas as well as creation theology.
The last paper is a more in depth exploration of Hildegard's music focussing on the Marion Songs and conceiving them as representations of an eternal feminine. Feminist concepts of such as embodied thought seeks to define Hildegard's music as a feminist spiritual practice.
