Fallout is the third book in the Savannah Sizzle series, and continues on from the explosive events at the end of Sabotage. The pet hotel, located on the grounds of the Savannah Sun Hotel and Resort, went up in flames along with the hateful words written on the side of the building.
Detective Juliette Foret is tasked with investigating this arson incident. The only complicating factor is that she has a highly fractious relationship with the resort’s part owner and legal counsel, Liam Lawrence Ward, who oversees the hotel security and all legal related matters... As they say, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Ignoring the detective’s stern warnings, Liam finds himself being shot at as the only witness to a murder while he covertly investigates a series of events seemingly targeting his soon to be sister-in-law, Master Chef Simone Boudreaux. Detective Foret steps in to salvage the dire situation but Liam has other plans and calls on his childhood friend and former girlfriend, FBI Senior Special Agent Maddison Stone. Stone in turn uses her influence to form a joint task force with the police to investigate the criminals deemed responsible. The FBI agent also forces Juliette to work undercover with her and infiltrate a seedy gang clubhouse.
Disgraced former MI6 operative and SPNI private security consultant, Nia Munro, has seen her share of the dark side of life. She had expected that her Georgia babysitting assignment would provide an opportunity to further explore the suspicious circumstances surrounding her last doomed mission as a spy. Nia gets more than she bargains for when she gets pulled into being Stone’s sidekick in following up on a potential lead. An unexpected local connection comes to light, making Munro question all she knows. Together, the two women confront dangerous gun runners that are smuggling armor-piercing bullets to become a formidable team.
Foret’s existence get further thrown into disarray when her mother, the United States Ambassador to Canada decides to visit Savannah unannounced with her entourage in tow just as matters come to a head. This development reveals why a former Washington, D.C., detective would up and move to the comparatively sleepy port of Savannah.
Fallout leads to an explosive finale where Emerson and Simone get confronted by Boudreaux’s ex-husband who escaped a Canadia jail cell and faked his own death in order to seek his vengeance.
