Overview
This is a short story between a mother and daughter having "the talk" about how to protect herself after an inappropriate incident with her Uncle. There are facts at the end going over the statistics on how often sexual abuse takes place. The purpose of this book is to shed light on these dark accounts that continue to take place all over the world. This book is for adults to use as an aid to help them discuss with children on what to watch out for when dealing with others especially in an intimate capacity.
Description
The story opens up with a mother recounting to her daughter about the remarkable experience of having her and the stages of introducing her daughter to her friends. One night after a party there is an inappropriate incident that takes place between the daughter and her Uncle. The daughter in turn lets the mother know that something happened that is making her feel sad. The mother listens attentively and lovingly to her daughter and begins explaining to her what she needs to do in these types of situations. The mother comforts the daughter and gives her a visually stimulating talk on the places that are and are not appropriate for others to touch. It ends with the daughter feeling empowered to tackle any assaults against her agency.
About the author
Hi I'm Jessica. Some things about me are I'm a retired veteran and mother to a miracle baby with special needs. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a B.A in business. I enjoy spending time with God family and friends. My purpose behind writing this book has to do with not only my healing but hopefully healing for others. As a sexual abuse survivor, I realize more than ever before on the difference it would have made if I had been educated consistently and properly on how to protect my agency. I am on a mission to impact as many people as possible to inspire them to have all the "uncomfortable conversations" that need to be had with children. I dedicate this book to my daughter because I myself need the tools to help guide her on how to be mindful of the signs and situations that make her uncomfortable and what is acceptable vs unacceptable behavior. I'm originally from Connecticut but now a Maryland native. I am also a first-generation Haitian from Immigrant parents. I hope to reach all demographics especially my own since these conversations are not normally had in immigrant households.
