About the author
Dr. Richard Franks has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington and a PhD degree from University of California, Berkeley, in Electrical Engineering, and is certified internationally in strategic and project management consulting. For many years, Dick has been interested in how systems behave, including how organizations manage work and how work is done. After getting his PhD, he went to Bell Labs in New Jersey, first doing math modeling and analysis of systems’ performance and later managing a series of departments involved in various aspects of systems, eventually focusing on improving the effectiveness of organizations. During the entire time he specialized in the performance of systems, including human ones. Dick took early retirement, moved to Northern California and began consulting for billion dollar divisions of major corporations to improve their profitability through improved operational management. His consulting involved both developing strategies and coaching the organizations through their implementation. Many people in these organizations were overloaded and working long hours under high stress. Improving that was a key part of Dick’s strategies and implementations for improving operational management. This book contains 10 easily adopted behaviors that Dick evolved during his consulting. They will increase your work and personal effectiveness while reducing the stress that comes from having too much to do in the time available. Although a complete system, the book is set up so you can try these ideas singly or in small, related groups. Any of them will immediately increase your effectiveness and noticeably reduce your workload induced stress level.
