About the author
From entering the American school system, Kelly and her
teachers noticed that she was having a hard time with
the lessons. At the age of 9, Kelly went with her mom
to a specialized doctor who diagnosed her with specific
learning disabilities. Kelly worked with teachers and her
school program leaders to fill the gap on how she learns
and how the curriculum was typically taught. These
efforts of working together created equity in her access
to the Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) which is
a protected right under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act). After hard work and creative learning
plans from her teachers, Kelly finished high school and
went on to get her bachelor's degree in communication
design. Kelly is considered a neurodivergent learner
(she learns differently) and has a passion to see other
neurodivergent learners and their families get the help
they need.
