WHY I STARTED THIS CLEAN EATING JOURNEY
Several years ago, my mother was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes.
Eventually diabetes claimed her life. I thought I probably had it as well, so I
had my doctor test me, and I was given a Type II Diabetes diagnosis.
I didn't change my eating habits right away. I joined a CrossFit box in my
area, and they introduced me to a lifestyle called "Paleo." The first day I
reported for my workout, the coach told me about Paleo and told me for
the first twenty-one days that I was not to have any sugar, bread, soda, etc.
I thought to myself, "They must be crazy!" I continued to work out at the
box, but I ate what I wanted to eat.
Eventually, during one of my workouts at the box, I was doing a workout
called "The Filthy Fifty." The workout is comprised of 50 reps of various
exercises. During the first exercise, a set of fifty 2o -inch box jumps, I missed
the box (on number 47) and fell on my left side. I immediately knew I had torn
my rotator cuff. I completed the Filthy Fifty workout, then headed to the
doctor. I had in fact, torn my left rotator cuff. This meant that I would be
unable to work out for several weeks. At that point, I made the decision to
change my lifestyle. I changed my diet, decided to start eating Paleo, lost
twenty-two pounds and lowered my A1C (how glucose is measured in your
body).
I had rotator cuff surgery and still lost weight. When I went to my doctor
for a follow-up visit, he told me that he had never had a patient to have
I had rotator cuff surgery and still lost weight. When I went to my doctor
for a follow-up visit, he told me that he had never had a patient to have
surgery and lose weight. He asked me what I did while in recovery. I told him
that since I couldn't work out, I started eating Paleo. He said, "Well,
whatever you're doing, keep it up!"
