Beyond Belief: Agnostic Musings for 12 Step Life
Finally, Daily Reflections for Nonbelievers, Freethinkers and Everyone

Overview

Beyond Belief: Agnostic Musings for 12 Step Life (2014 Second Printing) is a contemporary daily reflection for people today looking towards or in recovery from substance use disorder (alcohol, other drugs and/or process addictions). Available in paperback, eBook or both (get yourself a paperback & get the kindle for $US 20 = $5 shipping @ RebellionDogsPublishing.com

From the Foreword by Ernest Kurtz, author of The Spirituality of Imperfection, Not God: A History of Alcoholics Anonymous and more: "The book is aimed at a general 12-Step readership, but it is mindful that there heretofore exist no such aids for unbelievers, freethinkers, and the unconventionally spiritual. Given that the latest Pew survey found that twenty percent of the American people list their religious affiliation as “None,” it is certainly time that the Recovery world took into consideration this population's needs. Beyond Belief addresses that need in a confident, non-aggressive way. I doubt that any believer will find anything objectionable in its pages. This believer, for one, finds much that is spiritually helpful."

For decades, daily reflection books have been as much a part of Twelve Step culture as morning juice or coffee. Today, addicts, alcoholics and people who love us buy 800,000 daily devotionals annually. There are specialty books for women, co-dependents, men, young people and beginners.

Beyond Belief doesn't treat doubt or atheism as a handicap; nor a higher plane. The Twelve & Twelve community creed is about unity - not uniformity. Everyone deserves to speak their truth, candidly. The long-term recovery community is a mosaic, not a melting-pot.

THE FIRST 10 YEARS:

Hooray for small victories -Beyond Belief is now on over 28,000 bedside or reading nook tables, eReaders, smartphones and tablets. Beyond Belief is the first daily reflection book written for everyone. Freethinkers and nonbelievers are the fastest growth demographic. AA members in Great Britain were asked in a 2020 membership survey about "higher power' as described in AA. Not every AA member subscribes to such a concept; but for those who do, 65% have a secular view of "power greater than ourselves," while 35% hold a religious view. So clearly, no one worldview is needed to come together on to find common ground and meaningful recovery.
