Overview
ArtQuilt Elements (AQE) is the only biennial East Coast venue devoted exclusively to the art quilt. Founded in 1999, AQE 2016 is the 12th exhibition of this internationally acclaimed show set in suburban Philadelphia. The exhibition has been widely praised by reviewers and artists not only for exhibiting the quilts in a gallery setting but also for promoting the quilt as an art form. The six-week exhibit will display quilts from 66 fiber artists from around the world, juried by Bruce W. Pepich of the Racine Art Museum. The work juried into this exhibition embraces original and innovative methods and incorporate impressive craftsmanship and technical prowess. This 86-page exhibition catalog features a full page image of each quilt accompanied by the artist's statement, as well as introductory essays by Nancy Campbell, Wayne Art Center Executive Director, and Cindy Friedman, Art Quilt Elements founder. Juror Bruce W. Pepich, Executive Director and Curator of Collections at the Racine Art Museum, introduces the exhibition with reflections on his selection process. This catalog was generously supported by a grant from Friends of Fiber Arts.
