About the author
Angie McCartney was born in Hoylake, Merseyside in November 1929. At age three the family moved across the Mersey to Norris Green, Liverpool and due to lung problems, suffering pleurisy and pneumonia every winter, she didn’t start school until she was six. By aged nine, World War II broke out, and when the Blitzkrieg almost flattened the City, her School, St. Teresa’s was converted to a shelter and Angie’s formal education stopped.
She delivered newspapers and earned a few shillings a week to pay for piano lessons. She achieved her Teacher’s Certification a few days before her fourteenth birthday.
She worked as a Junior at various offices and factories in and around Merseyside and developed a variety of secretarial skills.
Her first husband Eddie Williams died in a car crash in 1962. Her 1964 marriage to Jim McCartney (father of Michael and Sir Paul) then propelled her into another world. Jim died in 1976, and since then she has lived and worked in England, Australia, America, Germany, and her travels as “stage Mum” to daughter Ruth took her to Russia, Siberia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and some unusual destinations. She is one of the founding members of McCartney Multimedia, Inc. a Los Angeles based digital branding company, where she still works full time.
She recently began her organic tea company, www.mrsmccartneysteas.com, and many of her 5,000 Facebook friends are her customers. She is happy to be able to donate a portion of the proceeds to the Linda McCartney Breast Centre in Liverpool.
She is a weekly “live” guest on www.citytalk.fm, the Liverpool radio station, hosted by old friend Pete Price. Angie lives and works with daughter Ruth and son-in-law Martin Nethercutt in the little beachside town of Playa del Rey in Southern California.
She retains her love of music, reading, humour, cats, life in California, and to quote her “Any day above ground is a great day.”
