Western Alabama President Charles Conners is looking for a football coach to commandeer his first year football program. He thinks he's found his man in Alabama High School football coaching legend Kirby Williams. Williams is offered the job by Conners and the Western Board, though there is pushback from boosters, accepts the job, and commences on his journey of building a program that can win national championships. And by that he not only means on the field, but also off the field. He faces enormous challenges from people who don't believe in him, an extremely corrupt booster and his equally corrupt sidekick, a community tragedy, and getting his players and recruits to believe in his vision of being exceptional. About the author
David White attended Episcopal High School in Virginia from 1977-80. He then matricualted to Vanderbilt University where graduated from in 1984. He has written newspaper articles and columns for 37 years in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Chapel Hill and Durham, North Carolina. He has published four previous books: Leadership Lessons for Life in 2004; Shorty: A Life in Sports in 2007: A Man of Character in 2009: and A Stroke of Genius in 2010. He lives in Birmingham with his wife, Beth.
