Description
The Flavors of the World Created from Our Garden book is based on a special garden and an idea that began in 1995. Tired of having our open crops eaten by the wildlife we built an enclosed vegetable garden the size of a tennis court with an ample perimeter. An 8 foot high wire fence secures this area with an Italianate Pergola covered in grape vines on one side. It was built for Trisha's birthday present and her fond memories of growing up in England where her Dad also had a vegetable garden. It was exciting to plant that first garden and the bounty harvested quickly went to our table. It also became a new source for creating still life photos in my studio. The next year we planted another garden and as we harvested it the idea of a book From the Garden to the Table emerged. However not enough material was realized during ensuing years until a new plan emerged. One evening at dinner Trisha came up with the idea to combine our creative and photography skills along with our travel experiences to capture material for creating recipes and visuals for the book. During our travels we enjoyed many local food specialties wherever we visited and the plan was to create recipes for these dishes using the produce in our garden so that we could then enjoy the same flavors at home. So after many years, many crops, many recipe tests and many, many computer hours, the dream is realized and ready to share with others. These simple dishes from around the world with easy recipes can be created in your own kitchen with local produce available from farm stands or your favorite market. While most crops are available fresh-picked for only a limited time of the year, much of our garden harvest is frozen for use throughout the rest of the year. Enjoy over 200 full color photos of our garden, our travels and some of our favorite dishes accompanied by over 30 simple recipes.
