About the author
The Gathering of Nations Pow Wow began in the spring of 1983, in a small gymnasium at the University of Albuquerque. From the very start Native Americans came from far and wide to celebrate America's first people and culture. Thirty years later the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow is the largest event of it's kind in the world. Over 3,000 dancers and singers participate annually, and more than 75,000 attendees. The current home for the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow is the University of New Mexico Arena, "The Pit". Through song, dance and a festive environment the Gathering of Nations, in 30 years has become legendary as North America's biggest Pow wow. It is this publication which illustrates the pride and beauty of American Indian People. The color and pagentry is much to be seen. Through the photgraphs by Derek Mathews, the reader can explore, enjoy and experience the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow.
