Author Info

Greg van den Dries is a tech entrepreneur, amateur sports car driver, musician, cyclist, foodie and a proud father. He grew up in a car racing, Air Force family in San Antonio, Texas. His father was a B-17 pilot and a POW in WWII.

He started karting when he was eight and caught the bug. He’s raced as a “Gentleman Driver” over the years in Formula Mazda, Spec racer and most recently, in Porsche Club events.

After graduating from the University of Texas, he spent over thirty years in Silicon Valley starting, managing and selling tech and medical companies, some of which became household names including Creative Labs, Gateway Computer and RockTape.

When the pandemic hit, he and the rest of the world had a lot of free time on their hands, so he decided to write “Race to War”, his first novel.

The story was inspired by the design of the Mercedes Rekoardwagen, an amazing car of the 1930’s pre-war era. While the technology of the time was limited compared to today, the cars and drivers were able to accomplish incredible feats including the fastest speed ever recorded on the German Autobahn at 432 kilometers per hour (268Mph). The speed was recorded by Rudolf Caracciola on the stretch just before his accident. This is the highest recorded speed on a motorway.

Greg can be found holding a fork or behind a steering wheel in Miami Beach, Florida.
