Author Info

Thomas John Papadimos is a writer from the great American Midwest whose stories are for older children and teenagers. He is a native of Toledo, Ohio, but his home is wherever he hangs his hat. His life as a military officer, physician, professor, scientist, epidemiologist and Fulbright Scholar, as well as his travels across the globe, allows him to spin tales across a broad cultural landscape that provides him with a canvas on which to paint the adventures and deeds of his characters with words.

Dr. Papadimos is an Emeritus Professor from The Ohio State University Department of Anesthesiology, Columbus, Ohio, where he served as Head, Critical Care Section and Vice Chair for Academic Affairs. He has published over 400 manuscripts, chapters, books, and abstracts. He is also a retired U.S. Navy Medical Officer and is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar Award to the University of Athens, as well as a visiting Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Athens, Greece (where he received an honorary Ph.D. in 2021); and Wenzhou Medical University, China. He is currently a Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Toledo Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio.

He received his undergraduate education at Heidelberg College, Tiffin, OH; his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, OH; and a Master of Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, Baltimore, MD. He lives with his Greek-Bahamian wife of 45 years, Areti Tsavoussis. He has three children (Alexa, Sophia, and Yianni) and three grandchildren (Athanasios, Eleni, and Leonidas).

Papadimos Awarded Fulbright All-Disciplines Award

Thomas Papadimos

Thomas Papadimos, clinical professor of anesthesiology in the College of Medicine, has been awarded a Fulbright All-Disciplines Award to Athens, Greece.

Papadimos will teach a palliative medicine course and a mechanical circulatory support course at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine during October – December 2020.

Through this Fulbright, Papadimos hopes to bring the Ohio State College of Medicine and University of Athens School of Medicine into a closer, collaborative partnership in research and faculty exchange, especially now that both universities have signed their second five-year memorandum of understanding.

“I hope to provide subject matter for students and residents in Greece on these topics because of the recent flight of many physicians from Greece due to the 2008 debt crisis, which 12 years later still affects the country,” Papadimos said.

No stranger to international academic medicine, Papadimos is a founding member of the American College of Academic International Medicine and has been a visiting professor for six years at the University of Athens and at Wenzhou Medical University in Wenzhou, China.
