Michael Lisle Dunn (M L Dunn) was born in Chichester, on the south coast of England. He started learning the violin aged 9 whilst at boarding school, where he also sang as a chorister in church and cathedral choirs. He studied the trumpet from the age of 13, and as a singer, played in and wrote for various bands. As part of the duo 'Small Talk' he represented the United Kingdom in the Yamaha Song Festival at the Budokan, Tokyo, in 1983, where he won a performance award in the final. With The Cast he released one album, with U. Kay Hytz (aka uk heights) he wrote and produced 5 albums and a clutch of singles and EPs. He started writing production music in his twenties, gaining a Diploma in Media Music Composition and writing both commissions (NHS, World Health Organisation, Videotel and more) and music for Production Music libraries, including Universal, Connect, Zomba, Kristannar etc. Mike's music has been used all around the world in TV, Corporate and Documentary films. In 2006, after the death of a close musical colleague, he started writing Digitiphonies (Electro Orchestral Symphonies) in an attempt to reconcile the two opposing sides of his musical psyche, and he has now written ten. He recently completed a concerto for harp which is due to be performed by the harpist who inspired it, award winning Harpist Anna Quiroga, and he still writes and releases the occasional song. In 2019 Michael met the singer Mella, and several collaborations have followed. In November 2020 he finished writing and recording his 10th Digitiphony which was released on 3rd January 2021.

In 2022 he published his first book, 'My Reluctant Friend'.
