When Diane and Chris Calkins were married, he knew children--and probably a dog and cat--would be added to the family. However, he never anticipated sharing his life with a steady stream of foster and resident dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and even a chicken – a chicken named Zoe.
Although Diane has written for several magazines, newspapers, and websites, One Happy Chicken was her first foray into children's books. The book tells the true story of Zoe, a chicken with an attitude who ruled the roost and had multiple adventures, including a run-in with a foster dog named Foxy!
Thanks to her experiences in animal rescue, Diane has many more stories to share through children's books and a memoir called An Ark of Sorts. A Very Naughty Beagle Named Bonnie will debut in early 2022, with What to Do With a Ginormous Puppy following.
Diane is currently working on An Ark of Sorts, a memoir that shares the family's experiences beginning with that first dog and cat. Next came the preschool rabbit who had no place to go during the summer and then the flea-ridden kitten with the broken pelvis. Many, many more needy animals grace the pages of An Ark of Sorts. They can't tell their stories, but Diane can.
