Within the pages of "Fostering: Adventures on the Bridge to Love", author Amy Litwiler uses pictures and text to tell how she evolved from being a first-time dog owner to having fostered nearly 100 dogs in 6 years. As a new dog owner, Amy and her dogs made a point to get out and adventure in the beautiful areas around their home in Upstate NY. As foster dogs started arriving, they joined in on adventures and the book shares many of these in beautiful pictures capturing the scenery and natural world in which they played.
For anyone who is interested in fostering dogs or for those who have fostered already, the topics covered in the book will give an appreciation of the many aspects of fostering that are both challenging and rewarding at the same time. Many of the situations are illustrated by pictures of the incredible canine souls who shared the experiences with them. You will read about the ups and downs of fostering, including thoughts about "foster failures" or learning how to say goodbye. There are thoughts about dealing with rescue organizations and the people who have to surrender their animals. Why volunteer with a breed rescue vs. and all-breed rescue? Amy has some thoughts about that as well since her pack has fostered for both.
The end of the book is like a yearbook of photos of all the foster dogs who have graced the Litwiler home. The reader can see into the eyes of all the dogs and know how lucky they were to have been rescued and taken across the bridge to loving new homes.
Amy Litwiler hopes that readers of her book will be inspired to volunteer with dog rescue in some way and to get out on adventuress with their own dogs to enjoy the world around them.
