Overview
The Vth Position Method book is designed for the intermediate to experienced guitarist who wants to truly develop their sight-reading skills. This is not a beginner book about how to sight-read guitar music, but a bridge for the guitarist with fundamental knowledge and skill level to excel and become proficient in the art of sight-reading. The book offers a very different and unique insight to sight-reading on the guitar. It contains reading and rhythmic exercises, songs, non-traditional chord charts and a new innovative approach to using the metronome.
Description
The Vth Position offers an innovative and revolutionary new approach to the problem of sight-reading on the guitar. For decades the guitarist has been taught to start in first position when sight-reading and slowly work their way up the fingerboard into the upper positions. The problem with this approach is that it is confusing, awkward and uninspiring. The solution is to master the optimal position on the guitar, but what position is truly optimal? All my professional experience and research has pointed towards the fifth position. As such, this book will guide you to becoming a proficient sight-reader in the fifth position, thereby opening the door to confidence in most performance situations where sight-reading is a necessity. The book contains reading and rhythm exercises of varying difficulty as well as songs, scales, modes, blues examples, arpeggios, non-traditional chord charts, and a new innovative approach to using the metronome.

A unique approach to sight reading on the guitar I've been using Steve Girardi's book for about a month now. I'm a professional musician who started guitar lessons in January 2020. Sight-reading on the piano, my principal instrument, has always come easy to me. Getting used to reading on the guitar, however, is a challenge. Girardi's approach puts the guitar student right in the heart of the instrument. The exercises that he's devised look easy but that's just the beginning. The concept of internalizing where the notes are without having to stop and look at the fretboard is what makes this method work. To put the icing on the cake, the student is also learning material that goes to the heart of improvisation. The guitar starts to become part of your DNA. I highly recommend Girardi's method! I can read music! I have never studied or read music before, I started playing guitar a couple years ago and got hooked. This book will teach you the fundamentals you will need to enhance your guitar playing and understanding of music. The method is simple: follow the instructions and complete the exercises accordingly. The material is very easy to grasp and each exercise builds on the previous to enhance your ability and understanding. I cannot thank Mr. Girardi enough for this wonderful gift. Read more

A must-have, great method! Highly recommend this novel approach to sight-reading for all guitar students, beginner to advanced. Very well thought out and easy to follow with excercises that build in complexity but stay very musical. Has improved my reading skills (especially rhythms) tremendously. Also, the chords of color in the back of the book are a nice bonus for expanding your chord repertoire and exploring new sounds. Great book! Read more
