Overview

"This Is My Story, This Is My Song, This Is My Miracle" is an enlightening, inspirational, and historically significant manuscript that follows the genealogical heritage of James Story, a recognized music director, composer, and educator living in Middle Tennessee. James uses historical documents, oral traditions, and interviews with family members to piece together his family history. Reflecting on his own life experiences, he connects with his ancestors and discovers a commonality that captivates him – the use, love, and knowledge of music. Music is an inseparable part the historical, cultural, and geographical makeup of his ancestors. This memoir interweaves family stories with James's personal narratives, song lyrics, prayers, and Bible passages to reveal how much music has shaped James's life, beliefs, and continuing recovery from COVID-19.

Description

“The stories are moving and compelling and colorful. The writer does a good job of weaving his and his family’s past with his musical presentation.”

~Lisa Weathers

“This book is a testimony to the power of faith, prayer, family, and friends.  James Story’s “story” is truly remarkable. The book’s title comes from the familiar hymn, “Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine,” with each chapter beginning with a phrase of a familiar hymn.   Each chapter of the book’s final section, “This is My Miracle,” ends with a prayer.  Readers will find inspiration as they laugh and cry with James Story from the book’s beginning to the final page.”

~Carol Bucy

“James found a voice in music, his passion, and love.  This story is unique to James as he chronicles how he persevered against all odds and never strayed from a personal journey and ambition to become an accomplished musician. His story is universal as it reminds us, as we should be reminded, that our ancestry defines who we are.  Even during the horrific and oppressive years of segregation, generations of Black communities celebrated, often through music and song, a rich history and cultural heritage.

And finally, James so smartly encourages us not to forget to celebrate our unimaginable triumphs.”

~Calvin Peeler
