Xue Mo (the pen name of Chen Kaihong) is a renowned cultural scholar, National First-Class Writer, and Vice President of Gansu Provincial Writers Association. He is revered in China for his best-selling writings and powerful teachings on Chinese traditional culture.
Prolific and wide-ranging, his works cover many fields with a variety of literary genres, including novels, non-fiction works on philosophy, religion and culture as well as poems, and in-depth exploration on the themes of love, faith, life, death, human nature and humanity.
His representative full-length novels include: "The Desert Trilogy" (Desert Rites, Desert Hunters, White Tiger Pass) and "The Soul Trilogy" (Curses of Xixia Dynasty, The wolf of Xixia, The Holy Monk and the Spirit Woman). Other novels include "Wild Fox Ridge", "Songs of Liangzhou", "The Crunching Of Broad Beans At Dead Of Night", and the epic poem "Suosalang (I-VIII)". His cultural and philosophical works include "The Buddha's Wisdom (I-III)", "The Mahasiddhas' Secrets (I-VIII)", "The Essence of Mahamudra", "Xue Mo's Philosophy School of Mind Series", "The True Thoughts of Lao Tzu: The Interpretation of the Tao Te Ching (I-IV)", et al. His non-fiction works include a series of cultural travel notes – "The Offspring of the Huns", "Don Quixote in North America", and "Mountain God's Arrow Piles".
Xue Mo is the winner of multiple prizes, including the Feng Mu Prize for Literature, the Shanghai Grand Prize for Best Novels, and the Dunhuang Prize for the arts. To date, Xue Mo's works have been translated into more than 20 languages, reaching a large international readership. One of his best-selling books "Selected Stories by Xue Mo" has been warmly welcomed throughout the world. In this book, the story 'Old Man Xinjiang' has been published by Britain's Guardian newspaper and was considered one of the five most excellent short stories in contemporary China. Domestically, he has legions of devoted followers and a corpus of more than a hundred published works.
