Overview

As a child, Mary danced in the lights of the Tree Robots. Now, she knows enough to fear what once fascinated her.

Told from Mary’s perspective, The Tree of Life: Book 2 follows her search for the truth about The Tree, the Life Lines, and the Markings. What she has learned about her family makes it impossible to turn away. Yet part of her longs for the innocence of a childhood when she didn’t know what those lights could mean.

Description

As a child, Mary danced in the lights of the Tree Robots. Now, she questions everything those lights once promised.

In The Tree of Life: Book 2, the story shifts to Mary’s perspective as she searches for answers about The Tree, the Life Lines, and the Markings. Learning what The Tree has done to her family and others has changed how she sees her world. Part of her still longs for the days when she could look at it with wonder instead of suspicion.

But understanding the truth means confronting more than secrets. How do you know who is good and who is dangerous when the answer changes depending on which side you’re on? And how do you decide what is right when the people around you have conflicting reasons for what they do?

Alongside Able, Zoe, and their friends, Mary discovers that answers can complicate the choices ahead. As familiar events take on new meaning through her eyes, she must question both the power The Tree holds and the judgments she once felt certain about.

About The Author

Laurie K. Ward draws on life experiences to create her stories and believes some stories simply need to be told. The Tree of Life is one of them.

The dystopian science fiction trilogy began with a dream she had one night and scrawled into a notebook. From those first notes grew a world of unsettling technology, hidden truths, and characters struggling to understand who they are and where they belong. The characters she once met in a dream are now alive on the page for readers to discover.

An educator with more than a decade of experience teaching at the high school and university levels, Laurie lives in North America with her family. Outside of writing, she enjoys hiking, coloring, Pokémon cards, horror films, and heavy metal. She also has a soft spot for panda bears.
