Matthew Pungitore graduated with a Bachelor of Science in English from Fitchburg State University. He volunteers with the Hingham Historical Society. The town of Hingham in Massachusetts is where he was brought up, and he has lived there for many years. Matthew is the author of Fiendilkfjeld Castle and Midnight's Eternal Prisoner: Waiting For The Summer.

Instant classic I’ve been searching for a while to find a good read just like this one. It has a perfect blend of horror, suspense and mood. I didn’t want to put this book down. If you are looking for your next read then give this one a shot . Read more

Deep Gloom and Unearthly Horror The first thing to know about this book is that the mood evoked by the words is that gloom and melancholy, becoming horror as each story draws on. And as this is a book of Gothic horror stories, this is exactly what the intended readers are searching for. it is deliberately written in the style of older horror writers, such as Poe. The more archaic openings, the tale within a tale format, the manuscript within a manuscript, it evokes not the modern day, but older, more patient horror, but no less visceral for being patient at the first and slowly seducing the reader into it rather than be horrified from the beginning. The last thing to know about this, and the sole reason this is 3 stars instead of 5, is that almost every tale spirals into despair and annihilation--good humanity does not triumph here. There is no hope. And I do not like that. If you enjoy your horror to end hopelessly, you will greatly enjoy this! Note: I was given a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
