Troy Donahue Jackson knows what is important in life. In his memoir The Caregiver: The Greatest Achievement of My Career and in Life, he shares what it means to be a caregiver. He became his mother’s carer when the doctors were ready to give up on her. By caring for his mother, Troy extended her life. Being a caregiver is full of responsibility and daily challenges. I agree with Troy that the best medicine that anyone can have is love. Troy cared for his mother with love and appreciation. He survived the constant stress of caregiving through love and his faith in God. Without hope, people give up and die. Love is the key to giving hope and sustaining life.

Troy Donahue Jackson understands that caregivers must first love themselves before they can love the one they care for. In The Caregiver, the reader learns that dedicating oneself to caring for a loved one reveals who cares about you. Troy’s faith was central to his wish to be his mother’s caregiver. This desire was prompted by his love for her. Faith teaches that showing love for others is a reflection of God’s love for man. This is seen in one’s unselfish love for others and Troy believes that caring for his mother is his way of showing God’s love for humanity. This volume was written to encourage all caregivers and will boost the spirits of those who give and keep giving. Read this book and discover what it takes to make sacrifices for those you love.

Being a caregiver is one of the hardest yet most rewarding experiences in life. Nothing shows love like caring for a loved one in their time of need. Troy Donahue Jackson gives up his corporate career as a marketing analyst to become a full-time caregiver for his mother, Gloria Jackson. In The Caregiver, he shares his experiences alongside the challenges he faces. He has been taking care of his mother since twelfth grade when his father passed away. She suffers from heart failure, respiratory failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), poor circulation, high blood pressure, diabetes, lymphedema, and neuropathy with mobility issues. The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic complicated matters further, as did Hurricane Ida when Troy and his mother had to manage without electricity for two weeks.

The Caregiver is the heartfelt true story of a man's love for his mother and how they overcome the enormous odds life throws their way. Troy Donahue Jackson gives an unflinching account of the struggles he has to navigate while taking care of his mother. This is a book about love, compassion, and kindness toward one's loved ones. Jackson's writing is clear, concise, and, above all, accessible. Anyone who has ever had to be a caregiver should read this book. Jackson's story makes you feel for those who have to rely on strangers to take care of them as they age. I found the book to be an illuminating read and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Readers Favorite Book Review Mini-Critique Below you will find ratings (scale of 1-5) with general descriptions for the major parts of your book followed by your Readers' Favorite review. Although this is just a Mini-Critique, we hope it will give you an insight into how readers may view the different components of your book. These are the opinions of your reviewer, and although they are not a literary professional, they are an avid reader of books just like yours. Title: The Caregiver Author: Troy Donahue Jackson Genre: Non-Fiction - Memoir Appearance: The appearance of a book can make a significant impact on the experience of a reader, whose enjoyment is often enhanced by an enticing cover, an intriguing table of contents, interesting chapter headings, and when possible, eye-catching illustrations. 5 Plot: The characters of a book should be well defined with strengths and flaws, and while they do not have to be likable, the reader does have to be able to form a connection with them. The tone should be consistent, the theme should be clear, and the plot should be original or told from a unique perspective. For informative books -- those without plot and characters--this rating refers primarily to your concept and how well you presented it. 4 Development: Development refers to how effectively you told your story or discussed your topic. The dialogue should be realistic, the descriptions should be vivid, and the material should be concise and coherent. Organization is also a key factor, especially for informative books -- those without plot and characters. The order in which you tell your story or explain your topic and how smoothly it flows can have a huge impact on the reader's understanding and enjoyment of the material. 4 Formatting: Formatting is the single most overlooked area by authors. The way in which you describe scenes, display dialogue, and shift point of view can make or break your story. In addition, excessive grammatical errors and typos can give your book an amateurish feel and even put off readers completely. 4 Marketability: Marketability refers to how effectively you wrote your book for your target audience. Authors may include content that is above or below the understanding of their target reader, or include concepts, opinions or language that can accidentally confuse or alienate some readers. Although by its nature this rating is very subjective, a very low rating here and poor reviews may indicate an issue with your book in this area. 4 Overall Opinion: The overall starred rating takes into account all these elements and describes the overall reading experience of your reviewer. This is 4 the official Readers' Favorite review rating for your book. Review: Reviewed by Maria Victoria Beltran for Readers' Favorite The Caregiver is a memoir by Troy Donahue Jackson. Written to empower and pay tribute to caregivers all over the world, it’s a chronicle of the author’s life in his role as a caregiver to his mother, Gloria Jackson. The story began in March 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when he gave up his job as a marketing analyst to take care of his mother. The book goes on to discuss the sacrifice and financial burden of being a caregiver. The year 2020 was also a year when the hurricane season was particularly powerful. With the power grid knocked out for two weeks, he was suitably prepared with a backup generator, food, water, and a stock of medicine. The upkeep of a loved one and food preparation are also discussed here in great detail. Troy Donahue Jackson’s The Caregiver is a must-read for all adults. At one time or another, any of us may be faced with having to take care of our parents in their sunset years. Here’s a book that teaches how it takes selflessness, compassion, and love to be a caregiver.
