Tales of Urath
of Dragons and Drakes
by Arthur J Dorety III
View author's profile page

Overview

Epic modern fantasy with hints of steampunk and a large nod to developing science in a world where magic is used on a regular basis and is taught in schools and guilds.

Dragons are a dominant and ruling race of this world, but they share it with other magical creatures and a myriad of humanoid races. Many races are foes with one another and others have formed alliances for convenience and some for friendship and progress.

It is also a world where Gods from the outer realms seek to invoke their influence to gain the love and admiration of the people to add to their own power. A world where these gods must be kept in check by a neutral Order of the Balance. A world where certain mortals are given power to assist the Order.

It is a world with great desert landscapes, mountains that divide a continent, seemingly endless forests, vast oceans, violent riftlands of fire, powerful rivers, jungles and a whole continent filled with dragons, magical monsters and giants.

Description

The story is weaving as plots seemingly separate are seen to begin to intertwine and influence one another as the story unfolds.

A thread of a search for a lost artifact that can control dragons eventually converges with the tale of the search of a different artifact as the separate parties are led to the same destination, yet never meet.

Meanwhile the Gods, or as known on Urath, the Divine, watch and look for opportunities to further their own agenda at the expense of the mortals of the world. Other Divine wish to protect, but it is the Order of the Balance that watches and does their best to keep the universe from tipping too far.

This is all seen through the eyes of a dragon or two, a rogue mercenary, an egomaniacal half elf warrior mage and a pair of quasi immortals that are appointed servants to the Order of the Balance. All the while certain Divine from above and below watch and try to manipulate indirectly from behind the scene by assisting or using the people and citizens of Urath.

About the author

Arthur Dorety lives in the Northeast US in a quiet wooded area with New York and Philadelphia about an hour away in opposite directions and the beach just an hour away.

He grew up with a love of art and music and coming up with imaginative stories. Though official writing and putting down the ideas to share with others came a bit later.

Careers as a live sound engineer and lab assistant at Princeton University offered many opportunities to travel besides the rewards of work and this allowed Arthur a broad view of many countries and cultures that had a great influence to mold him to his current self.

He now intends to continue the stories of Urath with drafts of later series already written. Art and music also continue to be facets of the many sides of this author.
