Arthur Dorety grew up in a heavily wooded and rural area, yet lived between New York City and Philadephia. It was a great mix of country living with access to major metropolises and an hour's ride to the beach and Atlantic Ocean. He grew up as the youngest of three brothers. Though his father died when he was young, mom provided a solid and stable environment to grow up in as typical middle class family.

His mother worked at Princeton Geology and as a kid he spent a lot of time in the natural history wing among the dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. This led to a love of drawing as well as a long time self education on dinosaurs. An interest in art grew from pre-school to high school, leading to some time in Philadelphia at the Universtity of the Arts.

Music is also a love and a long time career in live sound engineering emerged. During that time he worked at Princeton University for the Ocean Tracers Lab under Atmospheric Oceanic Sciences. This afforded opportunities to spend weeks and months aboard research ships in the Pacific and Indian Oceans and offered great chances to experience many different countries and cultures in Asia and Africa. Travel was a main way of life at that time, including a lot travel for live sound. Touring with bands offered some of the same with tours of Europe and driving across the USA in a van with a guitar, bass and drum trio.

Amongst all this he discovered 3D and computer art in programs such as E-on's Vue and other programs such as Poser and DAZ Studio. This brought back a huge interest in art. The love for dragons, dinosaurs and fantasy never faded. Now the images seeded ideas for backstories until these grew and many became connected and soon became tales of Urath.
