Description

Start from Strength: The Heroes Journey Workbook (8th Grade) is a transformative, student-centered resource built on the Trait-Based Model of Prevention—an innovative, trauma-informed framework that empowers young people to discover and grow the strengths already within them. Designed especially for 8th graders navigating the emotional, social, and spiritual challenges of early adolescence, this workbook invites students into their own personal journey of identity, resilience, and growth. Through the lens of the Four Hero Archetypes—The Ruler, The Champion, The Enchanter, and The Lover—students are guided to reflect on their unique traits, explore their inner landscape, and begin to see themselves not as passive learners, but as active participants in their own story. The Heroes Journey Workbook blends creative exploration with evidence-based emotional development strategies. Students engage with lessons that build emotional intelligence, encourage empathy, and foster a deeper understanding of self and others. Whether used in a classroom, mentoring group, small group, or one-on-one setting, the workbook provides a safe, structured path toward self-discovery and empowerment. Each lesson is crafted to include engaging activities, discussion prompts, personal journaling, and integrated assessments. Students unlock Trait-Based Achievement Badges as they demonstrate growth in areas like resilience, empathy, self-awareness, creativity, and leadership. Interactive QR codes link students to digital assessments and personalized certificates, making this an immersive and tech-accessible experience. By the end of the workbook, students will not only have developed critical life skills—they will have seen themselves more clearly. They will have begun the journey of becoming the kind of leader, friend, and person they were created to be. Special Features Include: • Trait-Based Achievement Badges to honor student growth • Interactive QR Codes for assessments and certificates • Reflective prompts, journaling, and group discussion activities • Creative exploration of The Four Hero Archetypes • Integration with the Trait-Based Model of Prevention This isn't just about prevention—it's about becoming. About The Author

Dr. Jason Roop is an educator, behavioral scientist, and program developer dedicated to transforming how we approach prevention, recovery, and personal growth. As the founder of the Center for Trait-Based Transformation, Dr. Roop is the creator of the Trait-Based Models of Prevention and Recovery—strengths-based frameworks used in schools, treatment centers, and mentoring programs across the country. These models help individuals recognize and grow the innate traits already within them, offering a fresh, empowering alternative to traditional deficit-based approaches. With a Ph.D. in Leadership and over two decades of experience in education and behavioral health, Dr. Roop has trained counselors, educators, and organizational leaders in trauma-informed, evidence-based strategies that improve emotional intelligence, resilience, identity development, and whole-person wellness. His work is grounded in deep compassion, academic research, and a vision for a world where individuals of all ages are supported in becoming who they truly are—starting from strength, not shame. He is the author of multiple Trait-Based workbooks, including The Heart Workbook (7th Grade), The Heroes Journey Workbook (8th Grade), and The Roots of Resilience Workbook (9th Grade), with future titles continuing through high school. These resources blend developmental psychology, personal growth tools, and engaging, student-centered design to help young people navigate identity, leadership, and purpose with confidence. His approach to prevention and recovery is trauma-informed, hope-centered, and spiritually grounded. Dr. Roop speaks nationally on topics of education, recovery, and transformational leadership, and serves as a consultant to school districts, prevention coalitions, and treatment programs. He is also a person in long-term recovery and brings personal insight into the healing journey alongside his professional training. His mission is to help individuals recognize the divine strength already within them, and to guide systems toward more human, empowering, and effective approaches to growth. He lives in Central Kentucky with his wife Amanda Jo, a co-educator in the Trait-Based work and a meditation guide in many of their programs. Together, they lead the Center for Trait-Based Transformation and continue to design programs that invite people of all ages to reflect, awaken, and grow.
