About the author
Wighard Strehlow, Ph. D. was born in 1939, in Stettin on the Baltic Sea. He graduated with a doctoral degree in natural science from the Technical University in West Berlin. He continued his studies as a post-doctoral fellow at Yale University and spent thirteen years in the German pharmaceutical industry. At E Merck, the oldest pharmaceutical company in the world, his initial research was on the synthesis and development of psycho-pharmaceuticals, antibiotics and other drugs. He continued with clinical research and finished his industrial career in acquisitions and licensing for natural health firms. In Constance, Germany after Strehlow met Dr. Hertzka, an Austrian medical doctor, who was the first doctor to practice Hildegard of Bingen’s medicine, he returned to his initial interest in natural science and holistic medicine. In 1984 he succeeded Dr. Hertzka at the Hildegard Practice in Constance, clinically researching Hildegard of Bingen’s medical sources and applying them successfully on thousands of patients for over 30 years.
Dr. Wighard Strehlow has published a great variety of books in German and French on the Hildegard health program regarding heart and circulatory diseases, cancer and immune deficiencies, gastrointestinal disorders, rheumatism, gout, gynecological illnesses and skin disorders. He is a founding member of the Society of phytotherapy in Germany, and was also an active co-worker for the German food and drug administration in order to register Hildegard’s remedies, such as galangal, as safe and effective.
