Description
Spirit Prayers is a lectionary-based collection of prayers written for the opening of worship, intended to be engaged in participatory fashion by congregations. The author was invited to create these prayers to bring energy, openness, and receptivity to the congregation as they entered into an attitude of worship. Specifically, the spirit prayer serves as gathering words intended to help the members turn from the chaos and messiness of day to day living and enter into a space of worship to receive the message of the day.
As such, the collection can also serve as an opening into the sacred space for personal prayer time at home, the office, or any setting. The scripture and prayer provide the devotional stuff out of which personal reflection, creative individual worship or prayer come. They could be a way to start or end the day or reconnect with the holy during a busy, hectic, or routine day.
The prayers are grouped into thematic chapters including Beauty, Praise, Discipleship, Healing, Justice, Grace, Love & Gratitude, and Trust & Surrender. A special seasonal section contains prayers and liturgies for Advent, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Easter and Pentecost. The scriptural index allows one to search for a certain text. The format for each chapter includes introductory remarks, followed by the prayers. Each entry is composed of a scripture selection and a corresponding prayer.
It is the hope of the author that one may find entry into this resource from one or more of these different portals.
