About the author

Born and raised in Mobile, AL, home of the Mardi Gras, Shanquilla has always expressed a zeal for learning. Her passion started at a young age when she began writing short stories and poems for her family to read. A few degrees later, Shanquilla's inquisitive mind has led to being the great leader she is today. As a wife, mother and professional school counselor, Shanquilla considers the pressure and shame children encounter for being a part of a certain culture. She was inspired to create a different picture and tell a better story. Shanquilla's hope is to encourage the youth in all aspects of life through literature and mentorship.
