Overview

QUELLY AND THE GENIE

Brazen and bold, sixteen year old Quelly Martin has got it all figured out. At least that’s what she thinks until she meets Ash, the new foreign exchange student. He’s gorgeous and exotic. And for Quelly it’s love at first sight. There’s a big problem, though. He’s already hooked up with Quelly’s #1 enemy, Monica The Monster. With the help of her best friends, Angela and Coral, Quelly schemes to steal Ash away. But when the guy of her dreams turns out to be a genie, Quelly has to make a choice. Because winning him away could lead to wishes granted beyond her wildest imagination; or it could lead to the destruction of her entire world and everything she loves and holds dear. Eventually, Quelly learns the secrets of the genie, and to her surprise, that she has a secret all her own, an incredible secret that will initiate her into the Mystic. In the end will Quelly succumb to temptation or will she be willing to make the greatest sacrifice for love?

Description

SISTERS OF THE MYSTIC

As if high school wasn’t complicated enough…with teachers and grades, romance and boys, fashion statements and social blunders, broken promises and backstabbing, and Monica The Monster...now best friends Quelly, Angela and Coral have just stumbled upon the Mystic. A world of genies, secrets and magic that has opened them up to a realm of possibilities and powers they never knew existed. And to an ancient being, the Possessor, who has lain dormant for thousands of years—until now. As beguiling as she is deadly, the Possessor’s pleasure is the torment of others. Her desire to inflict pain and suffering is matched only by her insatiable lust for power. She spreads evil like a disease, leaving death and destruction in her wake. Quelly, Angela and Coral must discover their own powers. And with the help of an enigmatic genie known as Ash learn the secret of the Possessor and stop her, before she becomes too strong and destroys them all. The fate of both worlds is on them. But as they will learn in the Mystic…things aren’t always what they seem.

About the author

Hallie Gregory

I was born and raised in the Twin Cities. I like to write at night, when the world and my thoughts seem more peaceful. Downing Mountain Dews, gnawing on Twizzlers strawberry licorice and munching Skittles helps to keep the midnight oil burning. (I’m sure my dentist is cringing right now). I graduated from the U with a degree in liberal arts in 2011. I’m not sure what I’m going to do when I grow up.

Hallie Gregory is my pen name and persona. I always wanted a pen name. As an author I see myself as a combination of George Eliot, James Tiptree, Jr. and B. Traven. As a writer I’ve been influenced by Dostoevsky, Flannery O’Connor, Tim O’Brien, A.S. Byatt, Angela Carter, and the list goes on.

The idea for Quelly and the Genie and the Sisters of the Mystic series came from a conversation with my neighbor’s teenage daughter. One day I walked down to Turtle Lake. I like to sit on top of the lone, unpainted picnic table by the little dock and look at the water. It helps me relax. That day I found she had taken my favorite spot. I asked her how school was going. She told me about a new boy in her class who reminded her of the Aladdin character in the Disney movie, and how all the girls were talking about him. Then she said wouldn’t it be cool if Aladdin and the genie had been the same person. And I thought, Yeah, what if?
