Later, the captain readily acquiesces to the owner's prerogative as Ava reveals her intentions. The Avanti's mission is to return stolen artifacts to their original owners, and while the goal sounds worthy, it's not without its share of dangers. The most striking figure in her collection, "Gato Diablo," leads the intrepid Avanti to a village protected by a resolute band of women determined to save their culture. Initial misunderstandings nearly cause unnecessary violence, but love prevails and The Avanti rights a wrong. Drawn to the secretive society and their mysterious leader, Ava enters the shadowy realm of the jaguar. By learning the ways of the "cat," Ava advances her combative skills as well as her sexual prowess. In the final act of "Shoals and Shadows," the entire crew proves its mettle by coming to the aid of a village held hostage and under siege.
