This book provides a thought-provoking discussion with well-reasoned arguments, including insights on Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations in 1776, to the types of administration of economic principles from the beginning of mankind and throughout our history.  Using a much broader scope of review, before and after Adam Smith’s ordained status as the Father of Economics / Capitalism which always leads to a form of social Darwinism.  Economic principles unidentified per-say that were well understood by theocracies, kingdoms, dictatorships, secret societies, and other governments, past and present.  Economic principles are not new, and history provides insights to what has happened and why we are so far afield of a Free and Open Market.  Adam Smith’s false assumptions, in his fantasy of a free and open market, has led to a dynasty, controlling our economic system with collateral affects not in the best interest of the public at large.  Which assumptions have left us in a travesty, of our own making as the market is neither open nor free?

The writer recognizes that what can be seen in plain sight is not esteem above insights of people credentialed in economics, science, or law, so he has provided a myriad of end notes from respected sources. There may be criticism of using history, history that to some is not relevant, but history demonstrates how we got here again, and it is nothing new to history.

Since Economic Science uses the word Science the writer addresses both science and religious truths.  Clearly demonstrating that both science and religion are means to discovering truth but, are not the be all know all in an environment with so many unexplained anomalies.  The incontrovertibility of math, science, religion, and all the subjects found in this life are trumped by the law of opposition in all things.  The opposing arguments have compelling evidence, placing everything in a position of speculation, not truth.  They work to the point of the unseen anomalies.

The failures of the world are explained in the lack of applying universal inborn attributes of goodness and kindness.  These and other attributes of human decency apply to all scientific and religious outcomes.  The lack of these universal attributes will in either case (science, religion or anything else) will be proven not to be in the interest of mankind.

Description

NOT THEIR BROTHER’S KEEPER

The Travesty of Economics

This introduction is to tell in-part the end from the beginning.  Is it rude to tell the tale of where man’s heart can be found throughout the experiences of life?  Is it unkind to point out that mankind on their throne of intellect has many times overlooked the important reasons that we are all alive?  If it is, I must confess that all that is contained herein are the results of forgetting the past, and too often the present unclaimed desires of our hearts.  I merely want to steer our thoughts toward the light of remembrance of who we really are supposed to be and act accordingly.  Some may call it our conscience, some the love of God, whatever you call this inborn gift of universal attributes, no one can escape them, though some try to bury them.  We need to listen to our hearts with real intent or we might have a continuation of the travesty due to our own neglect.  It is a long history from the earliest beginning of the human family.  So, hold on, you may suffer whiplash going through the flashbacks of history and the fast forwards up to our time in history.

What is wrong with the twelve key elements of economics and it’s approximate 61 postulates, theorems, and assumptions?  (See Table 1).  If we take just a slice of history, a history that repeats itself, the results are enough to prove the failure of economics as it only benefits a small percent of the whole of humanity.  For example, in the past 11 years in the USA there is no empirical evidence of economic laws and regulations having value for nearly “80%”[i]  of the people of the United States.

In some form or another there has always been formally or informally a Law of Economics.  It always results in class, cast, haves and have nots with the individuals that do the work used as slaves, indentured servants, peasants, surfs, or the lower and middle classes.  Our new infatuation with Neo-Feudalism, despite our seemingly blatant blindness to its effects, is driving a wedge to exacerbate the problems of class divides which is spawning civil unrest.  This is being met with an equally destructive alternative of sameness hiding under a cloak of socialism, purported equality calling itself democracy.  Money and power grabber ideas by the few wanting it all their way and the rest of us under their control.  Do not stop here thinking all is well in the USA, as you possibly might not have considered the facts of the travesty being played out here and now with more trouble in the making.

Conversely, the laws of goodness and happiness, to which I refer to as universal laws or attributes, have empirical evidence of those laws’ implementation, neglect, or duplicitous use, all in plain sight.  There is no variation from the start of man to the present.  Science or religion’s accomplishments are largely a result of living by these laws. Their effect in many discoveries sanctions the results to be in humanities best interest.  Without these attributes nothing good can come from science or religion.  Findings or claims in either science or religion opposing the best interests of humanity will come, despite the finding’s short-term appeal, to the eventual enslavement of mankind, not in the best interests of humanity.

His passion is to get out his ideas which he believes that most every working American ascribes to but does not get traction in changing lives for the better, in a time when we are blessed with so much.  This book takes a look at the results of economics, from Adam to the present, on the vast population of the world, and the failure of humanity to resolve these issues with the application of goodness, kindness, and fairness.  The collateral effects of the polarization between science and religion (any belief in goodness, kindness, and fairness) in our current day has deepened the divides in most aspects of our lives, including the application of economic principals.  Humanities inability to see the interdependence of these two windows of science and religion in our world, has monumental effects that are diluting our thinking with the furtherance of catastrophic results.  Our personal care for each other sanctions the efficacy of science and economic principals, and the lack of care of humanity sanctions hatred and greed and will lead us to a destruction of our own making.  The anomalies of both science and religion have the need of acceptance, an acceptance which at present is out of our control of understanding, but they must be admitted and disclosed.  We live in a world that only wants to see the immediate problem and only wants to resolve that particular problem as if the problem had no source in our history as to why the evolutionary systemic issues of polarization caused the problem.  To make the change would require a paradigm shift of such magnitude that most are not willing to make, but could resolve mankind’s problems, if it were not for selfishness and greed holding us back.

Examples from history’s earliest beginnings are sited and can display the problem of economics with its premise to serve only one’s own self-interests.  Despite our claims and declarations of standing on higher moral grounds, we fail miserably at being our brother’s keeper.

Born in South-western New York State in the small town of Salamanca and from there lived in several large and small Cites of Western New York and is acutely aware of economic poverty and the resultant despair.  He Graduated from BYU in 1975 with a BA in Communications.  He Graduated from BYU in 1977 with a master’s degree in public administration.  He worked in the private and the public sectors in Administration, in the area of contracts, accounting, and Community Development which included libraries, senior centers, planning and development standards and ordinances.  He was successful in establishing a private public partnership in attracting businesses into rural Utah.  While working with redevelopment agencies he focused on attracting industry that would increase taxable value to fund everything from schools to cities and town governmental needs, while bringing in higher paying more technical jobs. He worked for a Civil Engineering firm doing much of the same types of things.   In both capacities (private and public) he wrote grants and helped in development of zoning and subdivision regulations. He worked for a major utility helping to acquire permits for a major transmission line, which traversed northern Utah and Southern Idaho affecting both cities and counties.   He has served on State, County and City Boards (tourism, housing, economic development, planning boards, advisory and hiring / placement boards etc.)

He has served 3 full time missions for his Church, in Chicago, Illinois, Rochester, New York and Salt Lake City, Utah.

He has been active in the communities where he has lived.  He has volunteered in Kiwanis club projects and served as President of his local unit, HS PTA President, Scout Master, Cub Master, Soccer Coach, Merit Badge advisor, Credit Union board member, etc.   As well as many varied church callings.

He received the ULCT outstanding Public Service Award (Manager-Administrator), Kiwanis Volunteer Award, and the Andy Rytting Service Award.
