Description
Captain Basil's story begins on a steamboat heading to the North Pole. She's closed-off and her crew is not very fond of her. As they face the inhospitable and unforgiving nature of the arctic, something unexpected happens. The captain meets an excitable young girl, Jelly, and they start to talk. This young girl manages to break the captain's icy exterior and helps her open up about her past and future, sharing their dreams and experiences, and so the captain starts to grow. By the end of the story they have a bubbling friendship, and even the captain's relationship with the crew has improved. However, near the end of the story, terror strikes, as the captain is made to face who she is and who she wants to be. Experience this thrilling expedition of courage and kindness, and see how it portrays being the first woman captain of her world, about how being vulnerable with others doesn't make her weak, and about how the fear of failure affects her and those around her. The novel uses lighting and a simple color scheme to not only convey the emotions of the characters, but also to show the cold nature of the North Pole.
About the author

Jeanri Bosch (she/her) has developed a snack addiction from how busy she has been. She has recently graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art and a minor in Computer Science. During her time in college she has managed to get published in two books, Buried Within: A Haunting Anthology and now Northbound. The latter of which was her capstone project that had a gallery exhibition as well. More of her interests include playing video games and crocheting. Both of which she is eager to pick up again after the busy final semester.
