Mzinaazod Bgojii

This book is about more than my artwork. This book is my way of honoring the resilience of my ancestors and acknowledging that without the difficult actions and decisions they made in the past, I would never be here. It is also a reclamation of culture that was denied them through the years of racial oppression they faced. I know I am an extension of them so this book is a pinning of my heart to the sleeve along with a shout out into the darkness. It is me raising my hands and looking colonialism in the eye to tell it that it hasn't won. Love and resilience have and will always overcome systems of inequality, racism, and injustice. Yes, we are wounded but we are rooted in faith in creator as were our ancestors before us and we will prevail.
