Aliyah Griffith is a first-time author, marine scientist, and National Geographic Explorer. She received her Bachelor of Science in Marine and Environmental Science from Hampton University. In 2022, she became the first African American to receive a graduate degree in Marine Science from UNC, Chapel Hill. Originally from Maryland, Aliyah now lives in North Carolina with her dog where she conducts outreach through her nonprofit, Mahogany Mermaids, as she works towards her PhD.
