Heather Joy's essays are balanced with pop culture references and her tireless crusade to spark a connection (which sometimes leans on the debaucherous side of things).

If you need a laugh, a mindless read, or song suggestions for your next playlist - you can find that and more in Heather Joy's explicit debut.

Description

Praise for MMMM: and the music that made me:

"A feat of radical self-disclosure, Joy makes frank, funny art out of Too Much Information, covering sex, love, abuse, trauma, motherhood, and music with a let-it-blurt Gen X spirit." -BookLife Review

"...her unflinching honesty and self-awareness remain compelling." -IndieReader Review, 4.7 out of 5 stars

"Joy’s voice is brassy and confessional throughout, and the book reads like an extended monologue from a braver and wilder best friend..." -Kirkus Reviews

"...an unapologetic and lyrical memoir." -Self-Publishing Review, 4 out of 5 stars

"Joy's mixed tape of humor and vulnerability make this memoir not just a love letter to music, but the story of a life that will appeal to anyone seeking connection and self-acceptance." -Readers' Favorite Review, 5 out of 5 stars

"This memoir is full of raw honesty, dark humor, and overall compelling writing. While Joy is writing from her own personal experiences, I found that I could relate to a lot of them in my own way and I imagine that other readers will feel the same." -Alex from the Likely Story blog

About The Author

To sum Heather up best, the author pulled some questions from the Proust Questionnaire located in the back of every Vanity Fair magazine. (You can also visit her at www.mmmmheatherjoy.com)

What is your most treasured possession? -My hard drive.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue? -Religion.

Who/What is the greatest love of your life? -Sleep.

On what occasion do you lie? -When someone asks, "How are you?"

What do you dislike most about your appearance? -Aging, or my "crazy eyes" I often look like I'm imitating Uzo Aduba from Orange is the New Black.

What is your current state of mind? -Curious, always curious.

What is your most marked characteristic? -My laugh.

What is your greatest extravagance? -Eventually buying a magazine advertisement for my book - that works, right? - a shameless plug Fundraiser by Heather Joy : It's BUST magazine or bust, baby! (gofundme.com)

What trait do you most deplore in others? -Rudeness.

What trait do you most deplore in yourself? -Doubt.

What are your favorite names? -Cora, Phoenix, Vivien, Ezra, Elijah, Xavier, Diaz, Santiago - what's funny is I don't personally know anyone with these names.

Which living person do you most admire? -I could list SO many - but currently, Chelsea Devantez. She's making money off of something I do for free/fun (reading and reviewing biographies). Check out her Glamorous Trash podcast or my BookBub account.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? -Alone? I'd say a free day at the spa or reading in the sunlight. With people? I'd say playing board games with those who provide fun conversation and good food.

If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be? -I'll be lame and say more photos taken together.

What would you regard as your lowest depth of misery? -My children disowning me, hands down.

Which talent would you most like to have? -To understand the stock market...or heck, math in general.

What is your motto? -Just do it! Thanks, Nike.

Which words or phrases do you overuse? -In typing/writing, I say, "haha" a lot. Not only does it give tone to what I'm saying, but I'm usually finding humor in most things. Verbally, I constantly say, "Get it together!" It's applicable in multiple scenarios too: yelling it to other drivers in a fit of road rage, thinking it to myself when I make a mistake, saying it to a coworker who dropped the ball, again...the possibilities are endless!

Where would you most like to live? -Somewhere with an accessible sauna inside and sunny skies outside.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? -Never being in debt.

What is your greatest fear? -Hearing or vision loss.

What/Where is your favorite journey? -The one that leads me to ice cream.

What quality do you most like in a man? -Intelligence.

What quality do you most like in a woman? -Sense of humor, especially if it's dark or raunchy humor.

Who are your favorite authors? -I mostly read autobiographies, so it's kinda hard to pick a favorite, ya know?

What do you value most in your friends? -They leave me a book review, haha (wink, wink).

#1 fan! I was going to keep my review anonymous, but I’m so proud to say this author is my sister! I (finally) finished reading this book of hers last night and I have to say, wow. Is it crazy or courageous to tell the whole world about your most private memories and secret thoughts? The author asks this question. It’s a little bit of both honestly. But mostly courageous if you ask me. She isn’t afraid to go there. No topic is too taboo for her. I admire the lack of a filter. But, she’s my big sister, so I’ve always admired her and looked up to her. I think this book is more than just a book. That might sound dumb, but it’s true. This book was a dream and she made it happen. I think so many people will relate to her stories and share her opinions on things. I’m not gonna lie, there were moments when I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I sat in shock at times. I cried at times. I laughed of course. All in all, I think she did a beautiful job at being vulnerable and relatable in her own poetic way. I wouldn’t expect anything less. I love you Heather Joy! I’m super proud of you and your book! Marvelous, Motivational, Mirthful, Mind-blowing ( I promise the author is much more creative) I laughed, I cried, I yelled “no, Heather, no!”, I also found myself mumbling, “same, girl, same”. I appreciate the openness of the author and the creative use of the letter M. This part biography, part self-help, part travel guide opened my eyes to situations that I have never experienced and validated others I have. The author is open about what she was thinking during these situations which helped me increase my empathy and also allowed me to feel better about having the same thoughts in similar situations I had or allowed me to have an internal discussion on why I had other thoughts at these times. The multiple pop culture references and song lyrics took me back to my youth (I’m a 90s gal). Throughout the book you can see the author grow and overcome seemingly impossible situations, everyone has demons (whether past or present), it’s how you handle them that counts and this author handled them like a champ!
