Lost In London

A Journey from Insanity to Acceptance

By Michael Shooty

Overview

For much of Mike's life, he dances with deception. Behind the veil of his well-crafted façade, he hides the jagged edges of his insecurities, shielding himself from the piercing gaze of judgment. Desperate to evade a lifetime of feeling inadequate, he turns to the only solace he knows—alcohol. Despite repeated warnings and interventions, the author finds himself unable to break free from the destructive patterns of behavior, seemingly on a collision course to burn his life to the ground. The reader feels a mix of empathy, horror, and helplessness as they witness Mike's downward spiral. Failed marriages, jobs, and opportunities are lost amidst the wreckage of his alcoholism, as he engages in a relentless dance with the Devil. In the ashes of his self-destruction, he peels back the layers of pretense with each page written, pushing through the thickets of deception to finally be honest. In this journey of self-discovery, he realizes that vulnerability isn't the enemy but his greatest strength. Through these raw words, he hopes others may find the courage to embrace vulnerability, the strength to embody resilience, and the connection to raise their hand and say, "I've had enough."

A Heartfelt Testament in Discovering the Power of Sobriety “Lost in London” is a powerful testament to the battles one faces with addiction. I was truly moved by how the book allows readers to experience Mike’s pain, witness the accountability and impact of his choices, and appreciate the importance of the Guardian Angels in his life—including his dear family, close friends, and AA support connections. The narrative keeps you engaged, anticipating what the next chapter will bring, and the readers will often find themselves cheering Michael on as he finds the strength to get back up each time he falls, ultimately surrendering and discovering the gift of life through God’s plan. I recommend "Lost in London" as a must read for anyone who is battling addiction or knows a friend, family member, or loved one suffering. The courage it took Mike to write this book and share his story reminds us we are not alone.  Read more

Recovery and the power of family This book is written from the heart of someone who has lived recovery, yet it speaks just as powerfully to those who love someone struggling with addiction. Caring for a loved one through addiction is filled with fear, hope, confusion, and unconditional love. This story gives voice to what family members often carry quietly, helping to illuminate how deeply the disease affects everyone involved. Through honesty and compassion, it offers reassurance that healing is possible—not only for the person in recovery, but also for the families who walk beside them. Ultimately, this book serves as a poignant reminder that love endures even in the most challenging moments and that recovery has the power to bring light back to an entire family. Read more

Lost in London - "We DO recover" I am certain I fell upon the book "Lost in London" by Divine Orchestration. I too am an alcoholic in long term recovery and Mike's story, in so many ways, is mine/our collective story. Most importantly he touches upon the Grace that saved him, when he received the "gift" of desperation. He speaks of concepts I'm still learning about such as emotional sobriety and the importance of gratitude. Mike reminds all of us God never wastes a hurt, but puts purpose to the pain He allows, treasure in the trouble and blessings in the broken! Read more
