About the author

Cameron Barrett is an American novelist. He has lived and worked extensively in both secular and faith-based businesses, which has given him the real-life experience to develop his characters with all of their various personalities, skills, and drivers. He served on the boards of a number of business organizations, and has served as the president of several organizations. This has given him a broad perspective on building teams and managing projects. His background in engineering and science, overseeing the design, development, and construction of a number of facilities, left him well-prepared to explore the task of building a ship. As a pastor, Cam aimed to relate historical and biblical characters to present-day life. As a youth pastor he learned to use the power of stories to convey important truths. Now living and writing in the American Midwest, he is blessed with a writing partner who loves to read and comment on his manuscripts. He enjoys the company of his large-and-growing family, both biological and spiritual. Cam warmly welcomes you into a mutually uplifting dialogue with him at cbarrettusa@gmail.com You can also follow him on his blog at ProvocativeChristianity.com.

Last Ship Out
by Cameron Barrett

Overview

A man stands alone, looking out at the framework of a ship that will take him away from this lush paradise before it is obliterated—but only if he completes it in time. He feels the catastrophe's deadly proximity, coming at him just as surely as the world turns on its axis, and the sense of impending loss looms large. But could he be wrong? Is this ship really his "folly" as so many have called it? Do he and his small band of survivors have what it takes to overcome the worst enemy of all – their own self-doubts?

Description

The man is a builder and businessman, but also a thinker, a philosopher, and a self-taught theologian. He acts nearly alone in his final endeavor. He thinks for himself, prays his own authentic prayers, and listens hard for the answers. He has watched the culture disintegrate right before his eyes. He knew it was heading to the bottom, well past a point of no return. But even he was surprised at how much the decline had picked up speed, developed a horrible acceleration, and took on an irreversible momentum all its own. The ship, the last ship out of this hellish existence, is consuming all of his time and resources. For those who are watching and listening, there are signs of a climactic catastrophe. He knows time is running out. The planet's time. Humanity's time. His time. Cameron Barrett tells a relentless, dramatic story about eight stalwarts facing insurmountable problems in a violent society. Watching these grudging heroes in action, we're reminded that each of us has to make our own choice about leaving a destructive lifestyle behind. We may come to a crossroad where we ourselves have to choose: Will we go along with the prevalent thought, or will we stand up for what is decent and right? Will we choose the narcissistic lifes that leads to destruction? Or will we board the last ship out?
