Kinsman Redeemer
by Cody Averett

Overview

Perhaps you are well-versed in the concept of a kinsman redeemer, or perhaps you have only recently encountered this term and now seek to explore deeper into its meaning. "Kinsman Redeemer" serves as a clear and concise resource expounding the timeless truths of Jesus Christ as our ultimate kinsman redeemer. This book will guide you through an exploration of Old Testament instances of the kinsman redeemer, before transitioning to an examination of how Christ magnificently fulfilled this role. The author delves into Christ's identity as the redeemer of land, the liberator of slaves, and the avenger of blood (and much more).

Description

God gave many laws to Israel that, to us today, are often understood as simply strange or outdated. While helping your neighbor pull his animal out of a ditch may have been a huge problem in ancient Israel, I personally have not come across such a predicament one time in my life. Misunderstanding, or simply ignoring, these huge sections of the Bible (that is, the Mosaic and Judicial law) has caused some error in the modern church. Where it has not caused error, it has caused confusion, and in some cases, even division and legalism. In the pages of this book you have the result of a six-week sermon series on the type of kinsman redeemer found in Levitical law followed by the anti-type: Christ. This book then forms a sort of case study on how we understand judicial and ceremonial law. We do not simply ignore it, but we do handle it carefully; we cannot rid it of its historical significance, but we can see the glory of Christ shining through all of it. I pray that this book will serve as an instrument to guide readers to think deeply about the ways God has worked in the past with Israel, in order that those principles and precepts may be consistently interpreted and applied today - and this in a way that does not force legalism upon the church, yet does not ignore the glory of God's previous workings.
