Description
In the Lord’s Prayer Jesus asks us to pray that God’s Kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Kingdom Come explores what happens— or what should happen—when the Kingdom of God truly comes in us, in the church, in our local community, and in the world. As followers of Jesus—people of the Kingdom—we should stand out among the crowd of humanity around us. We should be radically different—in a positive way—attracting people to the Kingdom by living lives that epitomize Jesus. We should be known for our self-sacrifice, love, generosity, loose attachment to things of this world, humility, gentleness, grace, and courageous stand for justice and truth. In Kingdom Come David Wraight identifies what should be evident when God's Kingdom intersects with the world, addresses the challenges and opportunities associated with Kingdom living, deals with the confusion and misinformation surrounding biblical truth and the identity of Jesus, and suggests practical responses that can be employed by individuals and the Church in advancing the Kingdom and doing God's will. Through compelling stories and biblical investigation Wraight takes us on a journey from complacency and religiosity to radical world-changing Kingdom living. As you read and are inspired by this book, may God’s Kingdom come and His will be done in your life and in the world around you.
About the author
David Wraight is the International President/CEO of Youth for Christ. Youth for Christ is an interdenominational, Christian-based youth organisation that operates in around 110 countries worldwide. After completing a horticultural degree David started his working life as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Essendon, a suburban area of Melbourne, Australia. It wasn’t long before David and his wife Jenny had a clear call from God to give up their chosen careers to give their lives to serving God in mission. They moved to the dessert area of Western Australia and worked for four years at an Aboriginal Christian Community reaching out to Aboriginal families and caring for neglected and abandoned Aboriginal children. Following their time in Western Australia, David worked for six years as a pastor and youth counsellor at a local church in Melbourne and during this time became the founding chairperson of a youth accommodation and counselling program. It was through his work with homeless young people and conducting youth outreach programs in local secondary schools that David came in contact with Youth for Christ (YFC). David worked with YFC for a number of years in a volunteer capacity and eventually joined YFC as the Executive Director of YFC Melbourne. David has worked full-time with Youth for Christ for 21 years. Prior to his appointment as International President (2004), David served as Area Director of YFC Asia Pacific (2000-2004), National Director of YFC Australia (1994 - 2000), and Executive Director of YFC Melbourne (1990–1993). David’s passion and calling is to see as many young people as possible have the opportunity to meet Jesus and become life-long followers of Him. He is the author of two books: The Next Wave which describes how God is raising up a generation of globally connected young people who—through the empowerment and support of the Church—have the potential to usher in the greatest mission movement this world has ever experienced; and Kingdom Come which explores what happens—or what should happen—when the God’s Kingdom comes in a person’s life, in the Church and in the world. David is married to Jenny and they have three children, Belinda, Tracey and Michael, as well as two grandchildren. Both David and Jenny grew up in Melbourne, Australia. David education includes a Master of Arts degree with a Major in Psychology. He also has various other educational qualifications in Horticultural Science, Theology, Biblical Studies and Pastoral Counselling. David and Jenny currently reside in Denver, CO, USA, the location of the international office of YFC.
