Judgnomics: Applying Measurements to Certainty

In all areas of life, we receive and provide information. Making a decision based on bad information can lead to disaster. How can we determine the validity of a piece of data? We try to evaluate the people who provide us with information. Are they usually accurate, seldom accurate, or rarely accurate. Although this can assist us in understanding the validity of provided information, it is still a weak understanding.

In all areas of life, we receive and provide information. Making a decision based on bad information can lead to disaster. How can we determine the validity of a piece of data? We try to evaluate the people who provide us with information. Are they usually accurate, seldom accurate, or rarely accurate. Although this can assist us in understanding the validity of provided information, it is still a weak understanding. This book proposes that we apply measurements to the certainty that accompanies information. A process using these measurements is proposed to clarify the probability that this information is correct and, hence, enables us to make better decisions.

Robert Burbank graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a Masters Degree in Management Sciences from the State University of New York at Binghamton. He worked for many years in various financial areas. He is retired from IBM and Lockheed Martin. He and his wife Kathryn live with their dog Hannah in upstate New York. They have three children and five grandchildren. He has always been involved in sports. He ran 20 marathons including 10 New York and 5 Boston. Prior to that his interests were tennis, skiing, hockey, etc. At the age of 51, he took up rock climbing. He has climbed from California to New Hampshire. His climbing culminated at the age of 57 when he climbed Yosemite’s El Capitan. He published a book on rock climbing in 2010; Elements of Rock Climbing. He still climbs as often as he can.
