Overview
In this biography, Anthony Paola recounts his ALS diagnosis and how he has battled his disease physically, emotionally, mentally.
Description

"In the Blink of an Eye" follows one man's battle with ALS. He lives by these quotes, some of which are original Tonyisms:

"ALS is so ugly in so many ways."

"You have no idea how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have" – Bob Marley

"I can say F--- to ALS, our Government, and big Pharma."

"If your path demands you to walk through hell, Walk as if you own the place." (Bob Marley

" You will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." – Dr Seuss

"Someday I won't have ALS and I will be free."

About the author

I was born in the year 1960, I worked at Platt Electric Supply for over 39 years, I was forced to retire early when I was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as “Lou Gehrig's Disease”, in May 2019. With help from my amazing wife LeAnn, incredible caregiver and best friend Jeff, and my loving family try to help me adapt to the daily changes of a disease that’s main purpose is to deteriorate my body, the battle is constant, it is trying to destroy me physically, emotionally, and mentally. When I decided to make “In the Blink of an Eye” into a book we noticed at the end of every writing there are quotes, sometimes more than just one quote. My first editor Mary suggested we name them “Tonyisms”. Hence came the six “Tonyisms” below.

"ALS is so very ugly in so many ways."

"You never realize how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have." (Bob Marley)

"I can say Fuck ALS, the FDA, the Government and Big Pharma."

“You will never know the value of the moment until it becomes a memory.” (Dr Seuss)

"If your path demands you to walk through hell, Walk as if you own the place."  (Bob Marley)

"Someday, I WON'T have ALS and I will be free."

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE My Battle with ALS What an incredible description of the formidable ALS journey. Tony takes the reader through the changes and slow ripping away of life. Written from his heart, I can feel his love of life and those closest to him including his wide circle of friends. His courage is astounding, never in macho denial, but putting one foot in front of the other as a shining example. Thank you for all you have shared with us, Tony. God bless you, LeAnn and your family. After reading Tony's writing, I'm thinking he might've switched careers a little earlier on so we could have more titles under his name. Read more

In The Blink Of an Eye My Battle With ALS Anthony's disclosures and chronological journaling shares his intimate battle with ALS. Expressed and received with a variable of emotions that are truly heartfelt. This road map shares the depth of what ALS does emotionally and physically to is victims as Anthony shares the front row seat to it's unfolding. The strength of loving bonds with his precious LeAnn shares what a true unconditional relationship is all about. Being surrounded by loving friends and family and bearing the loss of his parents, his courage and spiritual survival is in constant challenge by the monster (ALS). There are messages of joy and pain, growth and discovery. With the consistency of hope radiating throughout. I truly hope that even one of the companies who are holding back the trials for medications to resolve ALS reads this man's journal. Hell why not all of them. It's truth bears witness to deteriorating physical condition while the mind and spirit are trapped into watching. While big pharma sits on their hands wonderful people like Anthony are slowly slipping away. Anthony through AA and camaraderie has maintained sobriety, and though that pathway is spiritually surviving this ugly battle. The bond with a network of family and friends, close friend Jeff, wonderful wife LeAnn and soulful connection with God is reflected fruitfully in these writings. Journey well Tony thank you for your light, love, and sharing in your pathway of life. Read more

unbreakable spirit What a testament to the triumph of the human spirit over the adversity of such a horrible and ugly disease. Tony bears his soul on each page and asks of us not to take a day or pleasure of our lives for granted. Although painful to witness as ALS takes his body, his mind is unwavering and he shares his joy and appreciation for his amazing angel of a wife, his support network of family and close friends, his former career and employer, and his faith in God. Thank you Tony. With much love and light my friend. Read more

Inspiring and insightful Well written journal of a brave man's struggle with ALS. I was expecting a bit of a "woe is me" tale but got little of that. Instead I got his conversation with himself and the reader and a story of inspiring courage. It is a tribute to his angel and wife LeAnn, his daughter and family, his caregiver(s), AA and sobriety, and his faith in God. Death with Dignity is discussed with great thought and insight. Government, Big Pharma, the FDA and insurance companies do not come off well here!! Inspiring and insightfull! Read more
